<p>I think 500 words is the official limit. You might as well, however, go over it as much as you want, as long as it's not meaningless...</p>
<p>Uhhh, why are we asking about this almost 2 complete months after the application deadline...unless of course you are a junior and starting inconceivably early. haha</p>

<p>Life is much more fun when you don't worry about college until you absolutely need to. Planning is okay, but obsessive chance assessments and essay writing is unnecessary. Enjoy your first two years in high school. I can assure you that junior and senior year (first semester, at least) are so killer that they compensate in terms of stress and hair-pulling.</p>
