Qs

Are there any QS classes besides Math, Stat, and Comp Sci? I know there's one in Bio, but are there any others anyone can think of? Because if there isn't, I'm thinking about starting back with Math 31 and doing that and Math 32 to fulfill that requirement. I don't especially like Stat and Comp Sci. And that Bio class has a prereq I don't want to take.

Or should I take 32 and 103? I actually have had both a semester of Multi and Diff Eq, though they were at a local university and I don't know how that compares with Duke. Will it look better for med school if I have 32 and 103 instead or do they not care as long you have reqs done?

Stat is brutally useful no matter what you go into and graded quite leniently. Math 103 is tough, but it's a little better than 32. Some medical schools strongly recommend statistics, and it's of crucial importance during medical school itself.

Ah, that might be the way to go then. Why is 32 that hard anyways? I took Calc BC as a freshman and I'm scared I've forgotten everything. Maybe I should start with 31? :/

No, because 31 and 32 are equally frustrating courses. As a general rule, students don't tend to find hard classes particularly frustrating. What they hate are memorization-intensive courses that fulfill graduation requirements (i.e. they feel mandatory) and are graded in a difficult manner. Courses where the material itself is difficult (i.e. biochemistry) are generally not particularly resented.

Math 103 is graded slightly more easily than 32 and 31 and certainly involves less memorization.

I should also have mentioned that statistics is one of the few courses from your first year of medical school that will prove relevant on a daily basis to the practice of medicine, no matter what field you enter.

Should I take Math 41 in that case?

That wouldn't be a bad idea. Hodel usually teaches Math 41 in the fall. I had her for 103, and she's a pretty good professor.

Hodel retired after this semester = (. So glad I got to have her! Her husband is retiring after next semester.

Eek, should I still take it then?

Mrs. Hodel was great! Too bad she retired.

There's a QS class for Biology? What is it? I REALLY don't like math and I want to be a Biology major, so...

what's your major?
I took a QS in the poli sci dept (joke class), there's financial accounting which doesn't count for econ major or minor and that's easy, a QS in soc.

You'll need Math 31, 32, and Stats 103 to graduate with a biology major, won't you?

Mathematical Biology and Population Ecology. They're not required.

Math 31 & 32 are required, but AP credit is accepted. Stat 103 isn't required, but it is a good class to take.

Keep in mind that you can do various kinds of search on courses, including Area of Knowledge (relevant to Engineering and Trinity) or Modes of Inquiry (Trinity only).

WOW!! This is really useful! I had no idea it existed! (LOLOLOL) Thanks alot!!
