Quad?

Comments on the quad?

Best house in the quad, or rank them 1-3 and why? Fisher Hassenfeld, Riepe, or Ware?

Amenities, community, atmosphere, etc.? Most people say that all three are nearly the same, but the Housing brochure makes it seem like you'd have completely different experiences in each one.

As an incoming freshman, what type of room would you suggest .. single, double, triple room (2 rooms), or triple room (3 rooms)?? I also want to know more about the triple room (3 rooms) and if anyone knows much about it (how big, is it better than other rooms, you get roommates but can also be alone when u want, whats it like?)?

I’ve heard that Ware rooms have sinks in them (huge plus for me). Does anyone know if the other Quad rooms do?

I mean I personally think Riepe looks the nicest (from the outside) and they got some dumb like “biggest party house” award in some magazine a while ago. I lived in Fisher and it was nice, reasonable-sized room and the such. Ware is alright too, I mean there really isn’t a huge difference in the 3. And that is incorrect that all Ware rooms have sinkns in them, it’s pretty random because some do and some don’t. As far as single vs double I would recommend a double your freshman year it encourages you to be more social than you would in a single.

have you heard anything about the triples (3 rooms)?

do freshman usually get into the English House(KCECH) or is it really unlikely?

Because they have a dining hall in there…

@hotinpursuit, if you put KC or KCEH (can you specifically put English? I don’t remember) I’m pretty sure you should get it (like 99%). It’s not all publicized and hyped up like the quad, but apparently it’s a ‘hidden gem.’ My friend who lived in English freshman year said she loved it. Also, I’ll be an RA there next year =D

Quad: sorry, I don’t know anything about it. I can highly recommend FreshEx though!

scribbler, I SO want to get into FreshEx! Question, if I put it as my first choice on my application, what are the odds I get in? Is there a ton of competition for it? I WANT IN.

Apparently it’s been getting more and more competitive every year :frowning: I’m not sure what the actual percentages are, though.
They hate turning people away and want to expand the program another floor, but housing services won’t let them. Just write about all the resources and awesome events, etc. that freshex AND harrison itself have, and hopefully they’ll pick you. You definitely won’t get in if you don’t apply, right? Maybe mention something about how you’ve heard about the harrison community and want to be part of it, etc. If you need things to write about search the forum, my friend and I have talked about it a lot in the past. I was actually going to be a “mentor” again next year (I was one this year) but then I got the KC RA offer.

I already submitted my essay. I wrote a lot about the Harrison/FreshEx community and how I thought it was Penn’s best. I also wrote about my experience at Penn Preview. I got stuck in an elevator, and the people were the nicest ever and it actually strengthened my opinion of FreshEx and Harrison.

You got stuck in an elevator? Oh no! I guess whoever was leading you guys didn’t emphasize the fact that you should have erred on the side of fewer people…(I was ‘that person’ explaining FreshEx last year, and I always made sure my groups didn’t make that mistake XD)

Hopefully you’ll get it, but what are you putting for your other choices just in case? I should probably start promoting Kings Court since I’m going to be working/living there next year haha (even though I don’t know much of anything about it…)

*Also, to everyone: Kings Court (and English of course) are getting a $10 million dollar renovation this summer! So all the public spaces/bathrooms will be new, there will be A/C in the public spaces, and there will be new lighting, flooring, and furniture. It should be nice.

I have Harnwell, KCEH next. and I forget the order after that… I have a few friends also looking into high rises, so I am applying there first. then KCEH then like stouffer and Gregory. then the quad. I am not really a big party-er. but I still want to be social. which is why I <3 FreshEx.
