Quad

All the Penn students here seem to have gotten “stuck” in Hill ;)

Does anyone have any information about the Quad, or know of a link to discussions about the quad?

Also, if anyone has any pics from INSIDE any of the dorms (i know they’re out there, but I haven’t time to search for them) I’d be appreciative if u could post them.

Thanks :)

ive got all sorts of information, being one who lives here. but theres a lot, what do you want to know?

sadly i don't really have pictures. the rooms vary in size (mine is actually huge, being on an upper level floor, but they vary)

idk, we could start on social life. with hill, it seems everything is really friendly, and all the suites get to know each other well. With the quad, you have the quad itself, then the sub-house (fisher, ware, reipe), and then the sub-sub-house. I'm wondering how they inter-relate. And do you make good use of lawn inside?

Also, what's the walk like to....well, whatever. Classes, FF, Bookstore, UniSquare, etc.

Thanks :)

I have pictures of rooms in the quad... I spent the summer there, but I can't get them online! haha... I will try again though with photobucket. But the rooms vary in size, have fridges, sink, some are single, others are like 3 rooms connected together. There are commons with kitchen and TV... and just other college needs.

oh, also a general Q for anyone: if i get in, I'm definitely coming to philly in late dec., early jan. will i be able to look around the various dorms before i send in my housing app, or whatever?

ok lets address the social stuff:
-oh hell yeah we take advantage of the big lawn. right now its getting cold so use is becoming more sparse (though people still use it somewhat), but there are/were always people tossing around a frisbee, playing football, sometimes volleyball nets were set up. sometimes people play baseball. basically anything. lots of lying around and chilling too. theres wireless internet in the courtyard, so people work outside too. its a good place to smoke as well, if youre into that.

-As for buildings and stuff, it really depends. you get to know your hall REALLY WELL, unless youre one of the few people who no one knows in the hall (theres no reason to be that guy though, unless you are like anti-social). usually you prob have like 20-30 people in your hall.
Within your building (not fisher, ware, riepe, but individual buildings like speakman, butcher, fitler, etc), i know assorted people, but im not incredibly tight with them. but still, people say hi and i know them somewhat.
Outside of the building, its all up to you. you can join people's frisbee games and chill with them, hang out with people from your classes, and take part in house (meaning fisher, ware, riepe) activities like movie screenings, dinners, etc. But the house setup isnt as conducive to socializing between buildings, cuz everyone lives in separate buildings

overall, you get to know a lot of people fast. your hall becomes your family, your building becomes your neighbors, and friends you make from classes (odds are, considering a good percentage of frosh live in the quad) are right down the street.

As for the walk, the quad is close to pretty much everything. the walk to frat houses is really short, and most classroom buildings are really close, except DRL (mostly math and science classes, engineers like live there), which like a 5 block walk. Even that, relatively, isnt too bad. But most of my classes are within one block or two.

oh, and the aesthetics of the quad are incredible. i still get chills when i walk down from upper quad to lower quad, and see that spectacular view of the dorms that you high school kids cream your shorts dreaming about haha. i love it, its incredible. its what college housing is supposed to look like.

thanks

also, again, are there residence hall tours, or that sort of thing?

they dont go inside, cuz i guess that would be an intrusion upon those who live in that particular hall. but, as im sure you know, the campus tour goes to the quad.

oo, thanx for the pics!!!!

yeah...very cool

oh...i almost forgot....these don't show the inside, really, i dont think, but still.....

wow....snow....

don't laugh people, but i've only ever seen snow once in my life...you don't really get too much in SoCal lol

i LOVE snow.....I'm def going to school in the north. yay penn!

haha... Utah has the best snow in the world.. although it hasn't started snowing this year yet, which is pretty strange.
wow, those pics of rooms in the Quad are nice. My room that I had at the Quad was a single and much smaller, but it was a lot of fun!

Utahhhhhhhh

when is it going to start snowing in fillee? My friend in NY says that its touching the high 20*s at night now. But low 60's during the days :(

dayum....it hardly gets below 50 here!!! maybe 45 at like 3-4 am, but otherwise, 50 is about as low as we go ^_^

i'd hate that. my fashion is entirely dependant on long sleeves. 2 years in FL has been death.

haha, well, if you're from cali, you wear long sleeves once it hits 60. people here are very sensitive to the cold - if it's below 70, it's cold lol
