Quadrilingual Chances @ Huntsman/CAS

So to preface this, please don’t call me arrogant, because I know that Penn is a long shot for me. I visited the school my sophomore year and loved it, and after researching many colleges I’m looking to apply ED to Huntsman with the college as my alternate school of consideration. My math scores are low for Huntsman, but I will be taking AP calculus next year and am studying for a retake of the SAT I as well as for taking IIC. I am a rising senior, and any advice as to how I should present myself on the app, my chances, anything would be greatly appreciated. Now on to the main event:

North African male at competitive Seattle-area public school. I want to study something in the area of IR/Econ/Area Studies (ie mid-east studies) as well as maintaining at least one foreign language.

4.14 Weighted, ~3.67 Unweighted

I am currently fluent in four languages: English, Arabic, French, and Spanish (basic conversational fluency in Spanish–see my scores for a general idea).

SAT I:

SAT II:

AP:
I will probably be in the top 3 or 4 or of my class in terms of number of AP classes taken, (out of a class of 350). Also, I will be the only student in recent memory at my school to have taken both AP Spanish and French Lit.

13 AP’s by graduation, 15 tests (took Euro and French Lang w/o the classes)
French Lang: 5
French Lit: 5
English Lang: 5
English Lit: 4
World History: 5
Spanish Lang: 5
Spanish Lit:
US History: 4
Biology: 3
Photography: 4

DEBATE

I would list my debate awards here, but they are too long and won’t mean much to you unless you do debate. Needless to say, I have three tournament titles, am ranked the 3rd returning debater on the west coast (according to NDR, an unofficial but extremely comprehensive ranking. again, for you debaters out there, I too am not a big fan of NDR but hey, if my ranking sounds good whatever)
I will also be debating internationally with TeamUSA at the pan american tournament and the european tournament as one of 5 teamUSA members.

 Taught new students how to debate, spending at least 2 hours at twice-weekly meetings teaching and drilling new students.
 My novices have consistently appeared in late elimination rounds, including finals, at various tournaments in both JV and novice divisions.

So there you have it (I am also taking up rowing, but that’s another story)

Lol...for some reason I thought the title of this thread was "Quadriplegic Chances at Huntsman/CAS." I need a vacation...

Strong applicant...the AP scores/ECs/GPA will all play in your favor...the only hole, as you may imagine, is in your test scores. With good enough essays/recs/interview, you should be accepted into the College ED but I think you'll need to raise SAT I to 2200+ for Huntsman and SAT IIs to 740/50+ each. Overall, good chances ED for the college and will have good chances at Huntsman with higher test scores.

i laughed for about 5 minutes over the quadriplegic thing, i think i'm a terrible human being...

Yeah, I'd say you have a great shot assuming you raise your test scores.

You overall are a competitve applicant and being an URM plus your language fluency is gonna be great.

lol ramses that makes two of us...

i don't think I can bank on URM consideration, since some colleges define "middle eastern" differently and don't understand the different races that "middle eastern" entails. ie someone from Egypt can be completely black--ie nubians, or completely white, ie those descended from the Greeks.

anyway, any other input?

gl m0sty!

when are you retaking sat's/sat2's?

did you post this before? maybe i have been on cc too long...nevertheless, i would say that you have a great shot. hope to see you in philly.

Regardless of your test scores, you sound like the exact type of applicant Huntsman should be looking for in my opinion. Now, whether that is the case is another thing. So, study and bump up those test scores and you should be a lock.

+1

ramses- i hope i see you at upenn

well, thanks for the input guys. does anyone know anything about how the Huntsman program administers its own test for Arabic since there are no SATII tests for it? On their website it says "qualified applicants will be sent the test" or something like that. What does that mean? and, to people who have taken a Huntsman language test, what is the exam like?

bump- any answers for the above question about the arabic language test?

URM targeting Arabic with stellar extracurriculars/leadership? You're probably in. If you can get your SAT score up to a 2200+, you're most definitely in. Best of luck!
