Quadrilingual Chances (Updated)

wow guys... cool it a bit... its just a chances thread... no need to argue when you agree...

good call americanincanada

I'm not trying to second-guess you, but if you were really fluent in Spanish and French, you'd get perfect on every test. Fluent means the language is second nature to you; that you're perfectly comfortable debating, conversing, and living in it. I came in the top ten in my state for the National French test and I love French. But I'm studying it. I know I'm not fluent in it. Do you see the difference?

i went to a french school (not an immersion school) but a french international school accredited by the french ministry of education for 9 years where I studied all subjects in French. I think I can say I am fluent in French. I guess for the sake of accuracy I have a working conversation skill and solid mechanical skill in spanish but i am truly fluent (as per your definition, which I think is a little more stringent than most people's) in the other three.

edit: even though it's kind of absurd to say that you'd get "perfect" on every test if you are fluent in a language (i think there's a distinction between being fluent and having mastered a language, fluent means you can converse comfortably and mastery means you can do what you said above) I did get straigh 5's on french lit and lang and a 5 on the spanish lang practice (score not in yet) and a 740 on the subject test (which is decent).

Why do you bother to keep posting the same info? You have a 3.6/1350 and want to know if you'll get into Harvard. Good chance a 10 minute read through these boards will yield your answer. You are the most defensive poster I've ever seen on CC. You're right, 740 ain't bad on Spanish unless you claim to be fluent. Your credibility is in the toilet. Are you going to tell adcoms you're fluent and then submit the 740? I'm showing my little brother his realistic chances and your posts have been the most helpful. He is also full of himself and believes his genius will be seen despite sub par GPA and SATs. Yet I think he's starting to get it. Good luck!

um...thanks, bobby. for the comment about my stats. very mature. what the heck's wrong with my posts??????????

Ramses, which high school do you go to? I also go to a public Seattle-area high school with a mom who is faculty at UW...looks like we have a lot in common :). With family who are UCB alumni and know the admissions system, you definitely have a shot. Scores aren't everything, your EC's are amazing...don't take any sh1t from bobby100.

thanks bobby for, as you said, telling me what i already know (that i have no chance at harvard). i think that's the end of this conversation so i ask that you not post on this thread again.

in response to megan, i go to bellevue hs and my mom is at the department of bioengineering but shes a biochemist.

Hey bobby100 you DAMMM wrong man you know it..Don't give me this bull**shiit Harvard is not only about grades you know it..I'm sick and tired of this crap about having to have 3.9+ uw gpa plus SAT plus ACT.the real life is not like that the top universities are tired of NERDS, score robbots they have thousands applicants with 3.9+ gpz they also looking to someone different...the guy have a shot..go for it..
HYPCDB:
1-Money
2-NERDS
3-exceptcional individuals like the person who started this thread

nice ECs ramses, very nice.

Your SAT I/II's need polish. Sadly (and it is a very degrading process I agree) many of the top tier schools throw out anything below a certain SAT score in order to cleanse the pile before taking a good look at all the applications. I'm guesstimating that at some of your higher-ranked choices (esp. probly @ Harvard) it would be around a 2100-2200. Get those test scores up and you will be an insane candidate.

admittedly im not very acquainted with the whole process but ive heard that a lot of the ivy admit process stems from "angles" ie presenting a clear concise package of what exactly youd bring to the table. ramses is very well qualified to send a very strong message with his big and thick package. i wish him luck and hopefully people start posting with a little more manners

thanks for that link (?) lol

am i just out of touch here or do people agree about the importance of ramses' big and thick package?

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

not going to deny that though.
