Qualifications for McGill?

I'm a nervous wreck at the moment (and I suspect I shall continue to be one at least until I've sent my applications out).

Since I hear that McGill goes strictly by the numbers...I guess I'll post a few numbers.
I have a 1330 SAT I (best composite, 1320 best in one sitting) and
SAT II:
-740: Bio
-690: Math IC
-640: Math IIC
-580: Writing

Have about a 94 GPA and will have taken 7 APs in total. I'm not sure whether I should apply to McGill (Harvard of Canada?!) or look somewhere else because of my terrible standardized test scores....

Thanks for any help!

Edit: Not sure if it'll help at all, but I have scored 4's and 5's on every AP exam I've taken (that would make 4 of them including Bio (5), World History (5), US Hist (4), Statistics (4))

Are you from Canada or the US?

From the US. Specifically, NY.

I didn't realize so many Americans were applying to Mcgill. Only 4% of the students there are from the US. I am not sure if your scores are high enough, but it is good that you scored relatively well on 4 SAT II's...I only took 2.

Yikes.
I was afraid that was so...

I am a Canadian, but I live in Iowa, I wonder if they'll look at our applications differently

haha, terrible standardized test scores my foot. Relax. you'll be fine, apply to McGill...and maybe consider taking the ACT :)

for the record, i had a 1320 SAT I.

I just "applied" online. There's no essay? When applying online, what do you need to send them through the mail or get from the website, print and send?

I'm not exactly sure; the site's a bit confusing.

no essay at all, I'm pretty sure it's a "click and send" application. You should get a confirmation either by e-mail or by mail, or by both. be patient, the admin can be slow. but definitely be proactive beause they admin office can misplace or loose parts of apps.

and yes, the webpage is very confusing, i will admit that.

i sent ACT and SAT scores and a transcript...that's it

They don't require neither essays nor teacher recommendations??

nope. I had a really good rec. so i think i sent it just for good measure, however they aren't required and I don't know if they even looked at mine.

i applied there too, but question: acceptance/"not accepted" letters... do they send it out during the mad rush in march, or is it rolling?

i sent mine in wayyy back in september, the website tells me that its "ready for review."

I think that they all come out in march/april :) note that Canadian universities are not bound to the same deadlines as american universities, so you may get acceptances later from them. Keep up on the status of your documents---make sure that mcgill has everything they need. if something doesn't show up on Minerva that you've sent, call and double check that they have it.

Very impressive...one more thing harpgirl, can you check out my stats and see how I measure up?? I am a Canadian citizen living in Ohio.

Thanks :)

McGill, like other Canadian universities, primarily uses GPA to determine admission eligibility. For applicants from US high schools, they have posted on line the score cut offs used for last year's admission. This can change from year to year, and possibly if you are below the cut off, you still might get admitted; see:

<a href="http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/undergrad/requirements-specific/us/sat--scores/%5B/url%5D">http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/undergrad/requirements-specific/us/sat--scores/</a></p>

They have it broken out by "faculties". For example the Arts (BA) minimum scores last year were:

Verbal 620-660

Math 560-600

SAT II Writing 610-650

I believe US applicants to all programs must submit the SAT II Writing score.

The web page also lists the required supporting documents, incl. letters of reference, etc.

Yeah, it's the Writing SAT II cutoff that worries me.
Do they consider the course load with respect to SAT score? For example, if you're taking honors and AP English courses, have a decent/respectable verbal score on the SAT I, would those take the ugliness (albeit slightly) off of the SAT II: Writing score?

Thanks for all the replies.

Got 700 Writing but 610 V , 690 Math
800 Fr, 800 span

Do you think overall verbal good enough?
