Qualified educational expense?

For the AOTC , would a fee for a required exam for nursing school be included in the “qualified educational expenses” along with the required books, supplies and fees? What about costs of student nurses uniforms?

I would think both would be good. Have you googled for an answer?

I don’t know. I used to think that mandatory fees a school requires from all students were qualified expenses for AOTC, but have since found out that transportation and student health fee for example are not.

So I would do bit more reading of Publication 970 to see if exam fees are mentioned.

Are you paying the school for the exam or a state agency?

The NCLEX? No. It’s a state licensing exam and has nothing to do with the school. If the school is charging you a mandatory fee to take Kaplan or Hurst reviews? Yes, as long as it’s being charged by the school.

No it is for the TEAS test, which is a nursing school entrance exam required by the school for admission to the nursing program. We do not pay the school for this test, however, it is given by a testing service. But you will not be admitted to the nursing program at this college, unless you take this exam.

I do not believe a test to gain entrance into a program is deemed a qualified educational expense.

No different than a school requiring an SAT or some other test for admissions. Read the AOTC requirements, but I think you can only take the books and supplies required by the enrolled institution, not those required to get in. Can you even take the costs of a summer course at another school? I don’t think so because you aren’t enrolled in a degree program.
