Qualified

Hello to everyone again.
As it's been pointed out several other times, a principal nomination means that as long as you're found physically, medically, and academically qualified you are in. On November 3, I got a letter saying: "The Admissions Board has reviewed your record an has determined you are qualified to compete for an appoinment to the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 2009." So does that mean I am fully qualified? If so, I should be getting an acceptance letter soon? Has anyone else with a principal nomination gotten an acceptance letter yet?
Sincerely,
Tyler

Tylerroar, The Naval Academy is usually the last of the service academies to offer appointments. This was told during their admissions overview and at both SS and CVW. Everyone my son met heard after April 15th and into May. As we understand it your letter means you are qualified to compete for an appointment but does not ensure admission. I think the best advice is to do everything possible to ensure admission and then relax, enjoy your senior year...plan for April 15th and maybe you'll hear early! If you start getting anxious now it will really wear on you. During Plebe summer you'll be asking yourself why you didn't have fun your senior year! JM

Tyleroar:

Can understand your eagerness to solidify your status at USNA. Certainly you are in great shape with a principal nomination and a "qualified" letter.
Other factors affecting appointment are senior year performance, medical qualification and character background (police record, parental status).

Concur with juniormom that you need to relax and enjoy your senior year.

Another thought. Take some time at Christmas to thank some of the people that have enabled you to get to this point in your life.

aspen, I agree with thanking the people that have helped us out. Last weekend, I typed letters to all of the teachers, coaches, principal, community service leaders, etc. that have given me written and verbal recommendations. There are many to write, so don't wait and get started on it now. That way, when the good news arrives, you'll be able to use some of your time celebrating. :)

I got my letter of appointment today so I guess they have sent some out already. It feels good to be in. Good Luck to the rest of you

Great news heyitsme!

Congratulations heyitsme.
Did you get the primary nomination? What state are you from? What date did the academy receive your nomination (it tells you in the Candidate Information System)? Again, congratulations and I hope to see you at plebe summer!

i'm from new york but i recieved a presidential nomination back in october. i had to get an eye waiver so that was what held me back.

How did you get an eye waiver?!? What is the process.. I thought that happens automatically..like your entered into a pool..Could you explain?

Congrats on your appointment! It is nice to hear that you didn't have to wait for an appointment with the eye waiver. Did you have a LOA? We have been told that eye waiver appointments usually come very late in the cycle and where in NY are you from (if you care to share)? We are from NY also and were told appointments wouldn't be made until the nomination process closed for the state...late Jan so Wow! Congrats and enjoy the holidays!!! JM

With a presidential nomination he wouldn't have had to wait till the MOC's were done. It's all a function of when your particular nomination became official and if you had an LOA at the time. The timeline is going to be different for everyone. Be patient---I know it's hard. Vision waivers apparently are not as hard to get as some may have thought--the competition for them evidently has little to do with the LOA process (if you get an LOA you are gonna get automatically waived if you are within the max vision parameters) and they seem to be tougher to get if you are just triple q'ed with no LOA.

i'm from rochester, ny. i didn't recieve an LOA, but i got a letter saying I was academically qualified. you are automatically considered for an eye waiver if everything else is ok. with my presidential nomination i didnt have to wait for new york to send out its nominations.

Hello everyone. I received the primary nomination from Senator Kent Conrad (North Dakota). I received my acceptance letter in the mail today! Good luck to all other prospective applicants.
Tyler Oar

Hello,
I also got my DodMERB in the mail today. For USNA, USMA and Army ROTC it says qualified. For USAF it says Potential Pilot Qualified. Does this mean I'm not qualified for pilot in the Naval Academy?
Tyler Oar

Heyitsme~Glad to see appointments going out to those without LOA's. Is USNA your first choice and/or are you waiting to hear from other schools? How long do you have to accept or decline your appointment? Congrats to a fellow New Yorker! Enjoy your holiday gift! JM

Way to go Tyleroar !! That's a great gift for Christmas.

This discussion forum is on a roll. Maybe being in this forum will bring luck to all of us anxiously waiting.

Aspen~Did your son go to SS? He seems to be on the same track as our son with everything done early (June for our son and posted in mid July) and qualified letter in October. Went to CVW in November and on the same track with interviews. I'll be anxious to hear when you get news. We really don't expect it until mid April-May but obviously hoping for sooner. (vision waiver) Our greatest hope is that he gets to make the choice. It's been hard with all of his friends getting into their ED schools especially when he started this process over two years ago with his first serious visit to USNA. A long process not for the weak or impatient! ;-)

Juniormom:

Our son went to both USMA and USNA summer programs. He enjoyed both, but preferred the Navy summer program since more time was spent on physical activities. Although he received an invitation to CVW, he hasn't gone. Decision based on a combination of his busy schedule, cost, and the fact that he went to the summer program and has concluded that he would like the academy environment.

Hope your family can put aside the anxiety during the holidays and enjoy yourselves.

Tyler--if I were you, I wouldn't even worry about being a pilot at the Naval Academy right now. First of all, you might not get it (that comes with service selection night). Second of all, a lot of people who want to get their eyes fixed at the USNA can.

Aspen~We are at the point of putting it all on the back burner since he has done all that he can...at this point we are trying to relax, enjoy and forget the busy fall...many activities at school to keep busy with until April...good luck to your son! JM
