So I wasn’t sure where would be the best place to post this so I am hoping here is fine. I’m currently having an issue with a university who doesn’t want to accept me as a resident of the state for tuition purposes. Here is my current situation.
I was accepted to Florida State University, but not until the Spring Semester, so I planned to attend the University of South Florida for the fall semester before I transferred to FSU. Now, for the last four years, I have been living in Canada due to my Job’s work but we still own a house in Florida as well as all our documents being from there as well (such as drivers license, tax returns, and vehicle registrations). We were also only assigned to Canada for four years, where we planned on moving back (we’re currently in the process to moving back now).
Now when applying to the schools, there were a few different addresses that we had to used which may have caused confusion to the committee, such as a difference in permanent address and mailing address, which caused both school to deny me in-state tuition at first. After talking to FSU, they now have me as a resident for in-state tuition but me and my family are currently having issues with getting USF to change the decision. Worst comes to worst, I’ll just wait until spring to begin since I don’t want my parents to pay the extra amount and I’ll take on a summer semester to catch up, but I would really like to start at the same time as everyone else. Does anyone have any suggestion as to how I should proceed with this? I would really appreciate any advice or help. If you need any other information that might help to solve this, just let me know
