Can anyone explain whether the applied mathematics major of the University of Rochester has good fame and quality? I’ve searched all over the internet but cannot find satisfying results. I heard that this program is facing some financial difficulties recently. Is that true? Thanks for your help.

I don’t know anything about the applied math program at U of Rochester, but if I were you, here’s what I would do to help find out:
-
Take a look at the current course offerings in applied math and compare them with the offerings in previous years. Is the list shrinking? If so, in what subfields of applied math?
-
Take a look at the current faculty roster. Are there significant changes from prior years? Who are the people who left? What are their specialties?
Also, see if you can find out how many graduates went on to Masters/Phd programs and where they went (if possible). That level of scrutiny can tell you a lot about the quality of the program.
