Quality of athletic facilities on campus

How are the athletic facilities (work-out gyms) near the North, freshmen campus? How much does a gym membership cost? Are there indoors pools that we can use at our discretion? Are there female-only facilities so that I that I can wear my lululemons without guys gawking at me?

no female only facilities...the sweat room is for females only...

i think there are designated times for pool but not for the gym...

I never worked out at Appel, but I went to Helen Newman gym a few times (worked out almost exclusively at Teagle). The lifting area and equipment at Newman was pretty bad. It was packed all the time, I could barely move, it smelled, and there was long waits for benches and the like. But the aerobic equipment looks good.

I imagine for a girl who doesn't mind working out with lots of people around her, all the gyms are very good. Teagles has a nice upstairs as well that's populated mostly by girls. It's not hard to find a treadmill or an eliptical or a bike on campus. I found the only good lifting environment was at teagle downstaris though.

Is there a gym near west campus that's decent?

The guys are gawking at you because they are in disbelief that you would even consider wearing those kinds of pants - at the gym or otherwise.

There is Noyes, which is beautiful.

Girls that can wear lululemons (or similar clothing well) well are not meant to be gawked at.

They are meant to be anticipated, and appreciated, and missed.

Damn, and if they're intelligent too!?

Girls that wear lululemon pants around are like guys who wear nothing but muscle shirts - it reeks of insecurity.

so what time are the gyms usually crowded? I like to go to the gym when there is really not much people.

Noyes is packed at around 9am and usually around 4 or 5 pm, as well. Pretty empty during the day, and not too crowded at night.

"Girls that wear lululemon pants around are like guys who wear nothing but muscle shirts - it reeks of insecurity"

Maybe so, but it looks fantastic.

helen newman is the gym on earth. I think its fine, but I only use the elliptical so I don't have much input on the weights or anything. most freshmen work out there, so you will usually see someone you know at any time. sometimes it gets a little competitive, which I like. seeing some girl in killer shape with the elliptical on high resistance pushes me to give myself a tough workout too.
the least crowded times are early in the morning and mid afternoon (1-3ish) it usually starts getting crowded around 3:30.

all of you spandex haters have really got to accept that they are standard staple of the female wardrobe. they're comfortable (girl jeans are nothing like boy jeans - skinny jeans get pretty constricting!), and as long as a girl is skinny they look good. I work hard to keep the pounds off and get toned, I want to reap all the benefits. As long as they aren't see through tights they're not even much more revealing than a lot of jeans.

"..., I want to reap all the benefits. .."

And so do we; Carry on!
