Hi, I was recently accepted to Umass Amherst for Computer Science, and I’m really curious about the computer science program there! I heard that it’s excellent, but I would like more details than that, such as how does the curriculum compare to other schools.
Furthermore, it would be great to know some statistics on the computer science program there, such as average class size and gender-ratio. (I found a website online, but I’m not sure if it’s accurate. I will include it down below.)

The best way to check class size it to activate your account on spire, where you can check enrollment in classes for previous terms. I’m also a prospective Comp Sci major, and I have found that the intro classes will all be 100+ people for the lectures, then 20-50 students for the labs. For example, there were 524 people in COMPSCI 121 Introduction to Problem Solving with Computers, but for labs they were capped at 55. This gets smaller as you progress, for example, the next class, COMPSCI 187 Programming with Data Structures, had 176 students out of a cap of 180 and labs were capped at 20 students.
