Quality of Yale's Associated Student Agencies' bed linen packages?

We got something in the mail about Yale's Associated Student Agencies offering discounted packages of extra-long bed linens, including comforters, bath towels etc. Some of the prices seem almost too good to be true, so I was wondering, has anyone purchased this kind of package from them in the past? Would I be better off buying from somewhere like Bed Bath & Beyond, or is the quality of these packages comparable and satisfactory? If I do purchase one of their packages, would it be a good idea to have them ship it to our house so we can pre-wash the stuff before it gets to my dorm, or is that not necessary?

livorneo, this was discussed previously on the Yale Parents Thread if you would like more info. General consensus is that you can get better quality and better prices by shopping on your own at places like Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl’s, and more.

Ah, ok. Thanks. (yeah, as soon as I pressed the submit button I realized I should have done a search, but didn’t think to before because I usually keep up with this forum on a daily basis)

As noted, absolutely embarrassing.

No problem; good to bring up again as we actually got a second mailing yesterday about the linens, so others may be looking for advice as well. This time it was a thick packet that also included info about renting fridges.

do you know if renting a fridge is a good idea? does it make more sense to rent one or to just buy one? thanks!

You cannot store fridges at Yale over the summer, so it worked out better for my S to rent one–all of his suitemates chipped in, so it came out to be only about $15 per person for the year. It was very convenient, and they did the same thing every year.

If someone lives somewhat nearby and can take the fridge home over the summer, it’s better to buy one. Otherwise, renting is fine.

Branford is one of the few (only?) colleges that actually stores fridges over the summer. If you’re in Branford, or you have a roommate that can take the fridge home with them, it makes much more sense to buy than to rent. It’s $110 w/ delivery, per year, to rent a fridge, and you can get a decent one for $120-$200.

^wow, really? awesome! yay for Branford :)

Yeah, well, I mean, we’re the best college at Yale. :D

Hello, I am looking for advice re the packages too. My son is coming from continents away and this seems perfect as EVERYTHING is included, plus they deliver at Yale. Is the quality really bad? If its a bit more expensive I don’t mind as just carting it all will probably cost a bomb! Would love some feedback.

^You can also order stuff from Bed, Bath & Beyond and they will deliver it to Yale on move-in day; at least that is my understanding.

Can anyone provide me with the link to the refrigerator rental information? We never received a mailing this year. It worked out very well last year, except that the agency takes the fridges away right at the beginning of reading period/finals.
