Hi,
I am in Algebra 1 Part 1. My school has two Algebra courses, Algebra 1 and 2-year Algebra. Is there any advice for reputable sources of online acceleration for a summer school, Algebra 1 course or an Algebra 1 Part 2 course. I am in 8th grade and fear that I will not be accepted into a top-50 college, if this shows up on my transcript. Any advice?
Duke TIP, John Hopkins CYT, and I believe Stanford offers a supplementary acceleration program. To be honest, you could always wait until your freshman year to begin with Algebra 1 Honors and take Geometry as an elective. By your sophomore year, you would be caught up. Talk with your future high school’s guidance counselor for more options.
While, I like your thinking, vadacosta, I am in a 2-year, 2-part Algebra sequence, and it is hard for me to get out of it. The future school, which is the high school I am going to, and the middle school I am in, which is in the same school district, thinks my math sequence should go like this:
School:
8th Grade: Algebra 1 Part 1
Summer: Nothing
9th Grade: Algebra 1 Part 2
Summer: Geometry or Geometry Honors
10th Grade: Algebra 2 or Algebra 2 Honors, back on track
OR
8th Grade: Algebra 1 Part 1
Summer: Geometry, not sure if I would be recommended for Honors Geometry
9th Grade: Algebra 1 Part 2
10th Grade: See above, back on track.
I want to do:
8th Grade: Algebra 1 Part 1
Summer: Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 Part 2
9th Grade: Geometry or Geometry Honors
10th Grade: Algebra 2 or Algebra 2 Honors
