Quantative Reasoning - help please

Hey guys! I assume you all got Wellesley practice QR bookslet (unfortunatelly I just remembered about it...Oh well.) Anyway, I have been doing Practice Exam from 1999 (or whichever does not have the answers). I don't know why they did not include at least short answers (people who took this test graduated long ago!) but for mathematically unsecure people like me the answers are crucial. I could have messed the whole thing up and not realize it.

Ok, the question is - could PLEASE somebody post short answers for 1999 test? I will check them with mine and finally find peace in my heart :)

Wow… you probably have the exam that I took, since I entered Wellesley in Fall 1999. Your reference that these would have been people who graduated “long ago” makes me feel old - even though I frequently feel like I barely qualify as an adult.

Sorry I can’t help you with the answers - I don’t remember any problems from the QR exam. Do you have a more math inclined friend to show it, even if they’re not going to Wellesley? I bet a math-talented friend would be able to give you at least some of the answers.

Right, the booklet does not come with explanations for the questions. If you need help or explanations of questions, ask a friend or a relative. Or, if you still need help and the questions are easily type-able, post on here and see if anyone can answer.

Also, to “pass” the basic QR requirement, you need to get at least 10 points (out of 20, I believe). And if you do not pass the first time, you are allowed to take it again. If you feel that your math skills are not up to par, you can/will take the QR 140 class in order to fulfill the QR basics requirement.

Also, I’m not sure if this is the review packet you got in the mail or if it’s an older year’s version but this one seems to have questions, answers, and solutions.

Oops. You need 9.5 points out of 18 points to pass; not 10 of 20 like I said in post 3.

Sorry! I did not mean to make anyone feel old

Unfortunatelly I don’t have mathematically inclined friends near by, but I guess I’ll look at the other test which has the responces  Thanks!

Yes, that’s the packet I have but I does not have answers to one test (there are 2 practice tests in there). It seems odd to me, but somehow I’ll manage this

Hm… 10 out of 20 sounded a little better. I did not know that I can retake it! When you took it, how did time limit feel to you? Were you able to finish almost everything or no?

You’re right. There are no worked solutions for the 1999 exam in that packet. Which questions did you need help on? I could try to help you out.

Personally I thought the time was alright. No one is allowed to leave the testing rooms until the time is finished. I don’t remember how much time you get, but I felt that a good number of people had extra time left. Partial credit is given, so even if you don’t understand a whole question, write out what you do know or give an explanation of how you would theoretically solve it.

During Orientation week, placement exams take place on Wednesday. Your QR exam score will either be on a bulletin board in Green Hall or they might have started putting them directly on Banner last year (I forget). Either way, you will get your score in time to know if you need to re-take the exam on Thursday afternoon or not. Scheduling for classes is Friday morning.

You could also email Corrine Taylor (ctaylor1@wellesley.edu), the director of the QR program, to see if there are solutions, or post in the MyWellesley discussion forums.
