So for the College of Letters and Science, the quantitative reasoning requirement "can be satisfied by achieving an SAT I mathematics score of 600 or better, an SAT II Subject Test in Mathematics score of 550 or better..." and if I did meet those scores ... and assuming that my major doesn't require Calc, what is the placement test for?

you don't need to take the placement exam then. you're done with math (unless you have to take stats if you're a social science major).

thanks for the reply!

if i am a econ major do i still need to take the placement exam with a 4 on calc ab test?

no, you can jump straight to math 31B. that math class is also a requirement for econ i believe.

Do I have to take the Stats class in preparation for the biz-econ major, even if I got a 4 on the AP Stats exam?

I think you still have to take Stats 11. I got the same grade. You only get units and satisfy quant. reasoning. Correct me if i 'm wrong

yes you have to take stats 11, even if you passed the AP stats exam. i think that stats class is geared a little bit toward econ majors because the social science majors (i.e. poli sci) take a different stats class.

I am technically "done" with math, since I don't plan on a south campus major, but I would still like to take more math. Like, higher levels of calc. Would that be a bad idea? I know it's sort of a waste of time, but would it get in the way of completing GEs and reqs for my yet to be determined major? I mean, are there even higher math classes for non-science majors? (like, multivariable calc for poets :-P )

Darkling,

I would only suggest taking higher math classes if you were to minor or even double major in mathematics or else it will be just a waste of units since they won't really count for anything towards your degree.

if i'm a biz econ major and i passed ap calc bc, do i need to take 31A and 31B?

No, you don't. By "pass", I'm assuming you mean 4 or 5.
