Quarter Grade Requests

Hey everyone -
I was notified that Pomona requested my quarter grades earlier this week - is there anything to read into that? I'm an ED 1 applicant by the way. Thanks!

Yeah I noticed that on my portal as well…I don’t really know if there’s any kind of meaning in it though. We’ll just have to see :/

My school mostly sent all first trimester grades for all ED apps…I wouldn’t worry too much unless you really bombed that quarter

how do you know if they requested your quarter grades?

My post high school counselor told me

D’s GC told us Pomona had requested them.

I had all A’s and 1 C- at the quarter due to my teacher not uploading a lot of necessary assignments… will this affect my chances??

You could send an email explaining the C-.

Yeah my counselor told me that Pomona asked for my mid-term grades yesterday. Why do they need them like 5 days before the result day?

I just asked my counselor and they asked for my grades also. Did they ask for everyone’s grades? Thankfully my grades were good but I’m still wondering why they would ask for them so close to the notification date. Does that mean they are still making last minute decisions?

I agree it is hard to figure out why they are asking for grades so late in the process.

It is possible that they have made decisions, but they want to make sure the people aren’t slacking off during senior year. (NO CONFIRMATION, JUST CONJECTURE)

@mirrrrrrr‌ No. I have two friends who are also applying to Pomona via ED1 this year but they weren’t asked to provide their mid-term grades.

On the portal it says that Pomona received a school report supplement in addition to the secondary school report. Does this mean that they have my 1st Quarter grades?

The Secondary School Report Supplement is explained on the FAQ page on the Pomona website. http://www.pomona.edu/admissions/apply/frequently-asked-questions.aspx</a> It’s only required if your GC doesn’t answer the Common App question about disciplinary history. D’s GC had to submit one because apparently when doing the Secondary School Report, she didn’t click the box for “no disciplinary history.” So she had to submit the Supplement to confirm that D has no disciplinary history. So I think it’s different from the grade report people are talking about. D’s GC got an email from Pomona on Tuesday morning, and GC described it as requesting “grades in progress.” But “grades in progress” might be a term that our school uses. D’s portal does not show any new entries for the recent grade report.

I spoke to my counselor and she seems to think them asking for grades is a positive thing. If they have already decided to deny you, they would not bother asking for your grades. They could be on the fence with their decision and just want more information. In her experience, everyone who has been asked for grades has been accepted (to different schools, not just Pomona) except for one person who slacked and significantly dropped their grades. It comforted me a bit but I’m not sure how credible her information is.

Q1 was asked for and submitted. Hopefully that’s a good thing. As it happens thet were the best so far, so it can only help.

I’m a recruited athlete that got a positive read on my application over the summer. Should I be concerned that Pomona did not request my quarter grades, or is this possibly normal for athletes?

Are you sure they weren’t asked for their grades? I suspect that if everyone was asked, it doesn’t mean much. But if only some people were asked for their 1st quarter grades it was only those who were on the cusp of admit/defer or reject/defer (the majority of whom will just get deferred). They asked for my quarter grades. I’m scared. Only time will tell…

I suspect they have already made most of their decisions and, as @FranciscoSan‌ suggested, are just checking up to make sure people aren’t slacking off. I don’t know much about what goes on inside the admissions office, but based on the amount of people on CC alone that have been asked for grades (I assume a lot more have been asked that simply don’t use this site), I doubt they would be making that many decisions less than a week before notifications come out. Again, this is all just my own personal thought process. Guess we just have to be patient!

@gmj3399‌ I have no clue how the athlete process works, but I doubt it’s anything to lose sleep over! Best of luck!
