Quarter grades on a semester system?

A college I am applying to says, "Please ask your counselor to send your transcript with first quarter or first trimester grades as soon as they are available" and "Please note that we cannot evaluate your application until we receive your first quarter or first trimester grades and the signed Early Decision form."

My school is on the semester system. These statements only apply to schools on the quarter/trimester system, correct?

no, they apply to semeseter system too. im in the same predicament. i hate that they'll see my grades and make their decision when they arent even my final grades, but thats life

If your school is on the semester system, then your GC needs to send in your grades you currently have on hand. This may mean that the school is making a decision based on your first marking period senior year grades.

But what if the marking period doesn't end until Jan/Feb? My school doesn't even publish progress reports.

Call the school. For the record, though, trimester is semester.

Quarter = Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer
Trimester = Fall, Spring, Summer

Scarletleavy,

are you saying that right now your school has not issued a single grade report and your school only issues one grade report at the end of the term?

If this is the case if the adcoms are on the fence and you are not a student that really benefits from the applying early (recruited athletes, legacies, developmental aidmits, etc), you may end up being deferred until the college gets enough information to make a more informed decision.

My school has "progress reports" but they do not involve numbers or grades, its a sliding bar system sent home to parents describing work ethic, knowledge, behaviour, etc.

The grades don't come out until January or February, if then, when we have our mock exams. Those are what basically constitute our senior grades.

I think you need to find out from your GC how they handle students who have applied early (beacuse I am sure you are not the first) as they probably have some process in place

Yes I'll ask her. I think they use predicted IB grades. I just don't want this to mess up my application.

I hope that this is the case as I do not think your school will leave you hanging out there.

good luck

Thanks. I have confidence that they have some kind of plan.
