Quarter system question

I really did try to find it, but couldn't find much online about this.

I understand the quarter system, but it doesn't seem like the breaks are THAT much different then other schools. Some of my friends are honestly worried that if I get into NU, I'll never see them again. Is there a calendar with exact or approximate (not just late September to December...means nothing to me) dates? Or your experiences with breaks and breaks of other colleges?

thanks for any help!

Most colleges have different breaks regardless of whether they are on quarters or semesters; the only definite amongst all schools is Thanksgiving weekend and the week from Christmas to New Years.

This year’s calendar:
9/12 - Wildcat Welcome, dorms open for new students
9/20 - Fall quarter classes begin
11/23 - Thanksgiving break begins at 6PM, classes resume 11/28
12/10 - Winter break begins officially (although depending on your finals it could begin earlier)
1/2 - Dorms open
1/3 - Winter quarter classes begin
1/16 - MLK day
3/17 - Spring break begins (could be earlier)
3/25 - Dorms open
3/26 - Spring quarter classes begin
6/9 - Summer break begins (could be earlier)

That’s this year but it’s pretty consistent. The good thing about quarters is that, except for Thanksgiving, every break is truly free because it’s between terms. Check with your friends, they will pretty much all have different start dates, breaks, and end dates. It will also matter less and less each year.

Thank you! Just what I needed. Idk f you’ll see this, but do you find the quarter system to be beneficial or no?

Our S is at NU and we asked him what he thought of quarters. He said they move along pretty swiftly so you can’t risk get behind (he’s a math/science guy.) He likes the idea that being on quarters allows him to take more classes.

As FindAPlace said, under the quarter system you get to take many more classes in your 4 years at NU. Most kids like it a lot but you need to keep up.
