I'm transferring from UCI to WashU this fall, and I'm interested in knowing how the transition from a Quarter System to a Semester one is. I know Quarter systems are constantly labeled as fast-paced and hectic (which i disagree with...i had plenty of time to slack off :P ), and Semester system is supposed to be more like High School, but any first hand accounts from someone here who has done so would be great. Thanks!

bump.......

ill be with you next year with the same thing, hopefully it is slower paced like high school (that was super easy)...college on the quarter system is tough especially when taking a bunch of classes

i love the semester system :) unfortunately, next year it will be quarter for me :(

where did you go, and where are you going mojo? do you find the semester system to be pretty easy?

well, i went to a community college, and i was going to go to uc berkeley or cornell (both on semester) but i chose ucla which is on the quarter system...now im kinda scared that it will be super fast-paced

And yeah, its easy i think. You have a lot of time to do things...

no kidding, what made u pick ucla over berkeley and cornell? cornell being so expensive?

well, i put a lot of though into it, cornell had more negatives (like nasty weather, isolated, etc) than positives, plus a lot of people try to transfer out.

when i made by decision over berk, i pretty much based it on internships, comfort and size. They are both the same size but ucla is 450 acres while berk is 1,000, so the walking distance is intense and it makes it feel more intimidating, esp for undergrad. Berk is a fantastic grad school but they seem to place more emphasis on grad than undergrad. I would love to go there for grad school, though. The size would be perfect, as grad school is all about independence and everything. But for undergrad, im just looking to get a degree, while at least enjoying myself, as well, and what better place to do it than LA :).

yeah ucla is starting to become almost as high of standards as berkeley...u made a good choice man, good luck with it. what's your major?

My major is Sociology and im going to minor on what i would have majored at cornell. My minor is Labor and Workplace studies.

how about u? where are u going next year?
