Quarter system vs Semester system

So just wondering, what's everyone's opinion as to which is better, and why? I haven't started college yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to like the quarter system. It seems to suit my learning style better, and I like that I'll switch classes more often.

I think I prefer the semester system better. I like the idea of starting classes in mid august and being done in may. You get out early, which helps when getting a summer job. Some of my friends who get out in june say it’s hard to find a job cuz all the kids that get out in may get the better jobs. Also, when your school the quarter system you have mid terms every other week.

I prefer the quarter system. It’s much faster and you get to take more classes. Also, you only take about 3 classes at a time, which is nicer than having to take 4-6. You also have a greater opportunity retake classes or decide when to take classes. And it’s nice not having to start school until the end of sept. It is kind of fast, but once you get used to it, it seems ok.

Quarters!! As mentioned only 3 classes at once, plus no chance of homework over winter break because the quarters are separated by breaks.

I’m glad I chose a school with the semester system, but we still have a May Term at the end where you take 1 class during the month. For me as a music major, I think it makes most sense for the semester system because you can take more classes at once. As mentioned about having only 3 classes at once on the quarter system, those 3 would fill up quickly with lessons, ensembles, music theory or music history, and probably leave room for 1 other class, which would be either for my 2nd major or a gen ed. Then those quarters where you have to take a gen ed, I can’t take something for my 2nd major because of so many music classes that have to be taken at a certain time. I think preferences on this partly depend on what your major is.

I have the semester system and it works for me. Classes start aug. 29th and are done by early december. In the Spring they’ll be done by the last week of April. Leaves me over an extra week for Christmas break and gives me plenty of time to find a job for the summer.
