I am a parent -

Have just realized that California has the quarter system...........

Rising senior HS son is interested in CS or CE with Business bent so wondering if it is going to be hard keeping up with the quarter system, esp when one has to take plenty of Math/CS courses.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

They’ll never know the difference, so why worry about it?

tell him to apply to berkeley.
the other uc’s cant beat its reputation, and it’s a semester school.

the amount of time in cs and math classes is pretty much the same…

he will have to take plenty of math and cs courses either way so i dont see how that would affect anything

I like semesters better. The longer term gives you more time to think about what you are learning and let it sink in. There are times where I don’t really understand a concept until a month later.

It really doesn’t matter that much though. In fact, one advantage of the quarter system that I can think of is that doing poorly in a class hurts your grade less.
