Qucik questions: Attendance?

Since the classes are bigger at Cal Berkeley, do they notice when you do not show up to class?

Are there a certain amount dates you can miss?

I'm assuming you can't be late to class?

Does cal offer the option of watching recorded classes?

not for lectures, for the most part-no.

in some classes, like chem 1a this semester, an insentive of extra credit is awarded (through the use of 50 bonus points from iClicker quizzes)

other than that, if the class is webcasted (webcast.berkeley.edu) , you can follow that from the comfort of your couch, lol

no one cares if you are not here... which I really like.
I think it really suck that some prof force student to go to lecture. If the lecture is ****, then come one, don't waste people time. I come from a cc where attendence is mandatory for some class (my asian art class give out two attendence sheet.... one you sign when you come in, sign the other one when you are out. I learn nothing from the class.)

You can ditch lectures easily unless they're like a 30-person humanity class.

In lectures they don't care, but discussion are hard to skip as some require attendance as part of a grade. In labs and high demand classes they tend to drop you if you don't show, but for the most part one goes to discussion to take quizzes or turn in homework.

<75 people, it gets iffy. If you're the kind of person who actually participates when you are there, it's more difficult.

Some classes actually take attendance, but those are generally only ~30 person classes or ones that care/grade you for it (and, almost always, the first day of class).

I have one class that is only 7 students. Guess which one I never miss regardless of how sick/busy/tired I am?

my japanese prof takes attendance

Some profs do not post notes online if the attendance is too low; labs & small classes require attendance.

They may not count it, but you will do better in class if you plan to attend every singel one

Lectures often cover material not on the reading list, so you may simply miss things you will need to know later.
