I love Quebec City. In early June, I’m taking my BFF there, to distract her from her brother’s terminal illness. I figure there are CCers who have been there and can give me some advice on things to do, places to see, and good restaurants. It’s been over five years since I was there, and that was in December. It was their coldest December since 1917 and I was in survival mode with my family from Texas, ha. Looking forward to better weather this time.
We love QC! Adore just walking around the old town and could do just that and be happy. But, we really enjoyed going to the fort, walking the walls, and going to the museum. We also did a boat ride to see Montmorency Falls which we enjoyed as it was nice to see the city from the water.
We had some great meals at Laurie Raphael, at Champlain in the Hotel Frontenac, and at Le Saint Amour.
I was there last August. We loved just walking around. We took a wine tour where they take you to a small island just 20 minutes away. 4 very different fun wineries…I felt like I was on an old English island. You will pass those Falls on your way there.
I was there far too long ago to give advice on what to do or see. I just wanted to say that I thought Quebec City was a fantastic place, and anyone who gets the chance should visit.
Something else. We didn’t do this because we didn’t know you could. We met some people who took a tour of the Chateau Fromenac. It was too late for us but I wish we had done that. I think they offer them at the hotel.
We took an old town tour, which was terrible, horrible…waste of 2 hours.
We were gravely disappointed by the food at afternoon tea at the Chateau Frontenac. It’s totally worth climbing up to the hotel and walking around the public areas, but they were totally phoning it in as far as the kitchen. This was in summer 2019.
We rode our mikes from QC to the falls and did the tour there. They have some great bike paths.
We also rode our bikes around the island in the middle of the river.
I had one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had there, but I doubt I could find the place again if I had to.
We don’t normally tour churches, but there was one maybe 30 minutes outside the city that was pretty cool. maybe St Ann’s?
We also spent a little time at Mestachibo (sp?) Gorge.
We loved wandering around Ile d Orleans. Wineries, food stands, etc. We rented scooters on Ile de coudres and that was fun. We also went to Tadoussac and took a whale watching trip. Beautiful area with great food! I want to go again!
If you are a foodie, I highly recommend eating at L’affaire Est Ketchup. It is an unassuming place, but I had quite possibly the best restaurant meal of my life here in 2017.
That was the island I was referring to, I didn’t remember the name. A great wine tour, for sure. It’s very pretty there.
My friend and I are heading out tomorrow. We are renting a car - they gave us a Miata! It will be quite the road trip.
We have reservations there for tomorrow night.
We went years ago in early April.
The only French word I know is fermé (closed).
Thanks for the recommendation! It was an amazing meal.
Are you encountering any fire related issues??
Not yet, haven’t seen any smog or smelled anything. It rained a good bit yesterday so maybe it’s clearing everything out
So glad you enjoyed. We were blown away by what those two could create in that very modest kitchen.
I told the one with a beard that an online friend recommended the restaurant and I was glad. He got a big smile.
