We all knew the day would come, but that was pretty sudden, coming just 2 days after meeting the new PM

I’m so sad. Our family group chat has been exploding this morning as we have all been talking about this. My mom was 10 years old when Elizabeth became Queen and she still remembers all of the coverage of it here.

So sad. Hope in her memory the family will heal its wounds.

May she rest in the peace she deserves. One of the royal family members I actually respected.

Odd that this happened just as England named a new prime minister.

And there was a picture of the Queen yesterday with the new PM! Feels surreal.

But 96 and such a life of service.

I love that picture, the Queen in a kilt, with her black handbag!

When I saw the picture of her with the new PM, I remarked on how frail the Queen looked. When I heard the press release this morning, I figured she was near death … but it happened so quickly. What an amazing woman, working right up to the end, just as she wanted.

A life of service but also a life of extreme privilege. Her children and grandchildren have been pretty disappointing compared to her.

I have never been at all interested in the royals and their succession problems because in my experience queens live forever. I guess things change. In that light, here’s the future of the monarchy as it stands today:

Prince Charles will ascend to the crown when his mother Queen Elizabeth II passes. Here’s what the line of succession for the throne will be once Charles becomes king, according to the royal family’s site.

Prince Charles (King)

  1. Prince William (Charles’ first child)
  2. Prince George (William and Kate Middleton’s first child)
  3. Princess Charlotte (William and Kate’s second child)
  4. Prince Louis (William and Kate’s third child)
  5. Prince Harry (William’s brother and Charles’ second child)
  6. Archie Mountbatten-Windsor (Harry and Meghan Markle’s eldest child)
  7. Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor (Harry and Meghan Markle’s youngest child)
  8. Prince Andrew (Charles’ younger brother and the Queen’s third child)
  9. Princess Beatrice (Prince Andrew’s eldest child)
  10. Sienna Mapelli Mozzi (Princess Beatrice’s first child)

We talk about the Queen and her 70 year reign. But think about that - she was named Queen with all the responsibilities at age 25 - 25!!! LOL, here in CC land, think of your 25 year old or nearish…can you imagine them taking on the role of Queen!!! It’s sort of crazy to think about.

You’ve got to give this woman props because she’s been through it all: wars, fears, family issues, unwarranted publicity, celebrations, world peacemaker, and recently losing her stalwart partner. She did all of this with her primary focus being country first regardless of her personal relationships. That takes a REALLY STRONG WOMAN.
RIP Queen Lilibeth.

I’m glad Charles is keeping his name. I never understood the reason why they ever changed it when ascending.

I just finished Revenge by Tom Bower which is about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

I give a lot of credit to the Queen for being true to her value of service to the Crown and how she tried to keep the monarchy preserved.

Isn’t Harry no longer a royal? So he and his kids would no longer be in line for the throne?

I don’t follow Royal news much (not really interested) so maybe I’m mistaken.

They aren’t working royals, but that doesn’t impact succession.
