D1 interested in Queens. Not much info out there on boards. If anyone has recent experience as a student or parent, I’d appreciate your thoughts:
What is social scene on campus, particularly on weekends?
Party/greek life.
Type of kids that attend (I know you can’t generalize but please try).
Academic rigor or lack thereof.
Was it a positive (worth the $$$) experience?
My daughter has also toured the campus at Queens. We were very impressed with the campus and the admissions office. She has not received a decision yet. I am concerned with the overall price. I do have a friend that her son is a sophomore on a baseball scholarship. I understand that a lot of kids that go are very involved in sports. My daughter is not planning to play sports in college so I am a bit concerned that if she is not part of a sports team it could be difficult. Several times during the tour the guy mentioned cliques especially with girls which also raises a red flag. However, even after all of that my daughter was still very interested in the school. I guess time will tell.
@“TWC#123” , my son was very interested in Queens University last winter. Though we live in NC, I had never heard of the school before that. We did some research, took an unofficial tour and spoke to a few people on campus.
It’s an appealing campus located in a great neighborhood just outside the edge of downtown Charlotte.
My opinion is that QU is not a school known for its academic rigor (like a Davidson or Wake Forest or Furman,) but that it is not necessarily weak in academics. In NC, I’d compare it academically to a school like Campbell – but they are world’s apart in location as Campbell is located in the smallest of small towns. I think it can be a great little experience for the right students and for parents who can afford it. These schools (QU, Campbell, and similar) look like very valid options, especially for B students who prefer a smaller private college option to large public universities like ECU, UNCG and Western Carolina.
My son eventually fell out of love with Queens University, but through no fault of the school. As he expanded his college search, he fell in love with other places.
