Queer life at Trin

How is it? Is it existent? I'm gay, and I want to go to a school that is open to that. Is Trinity a sexually diverse school, and how big is the gay population? Can you compare it to some other schools like Vassar or Wesleyan?

Trinity College has been ranked as one the top ten homophobic colleges. I personally have never seen this to be true. One of my closest friends is gay and also a student at Trinity. He has told me that he doesn’t always feel that he fits in because of his sexual orientation, but has never been victimized because of it. There is a small community of gay students, but they are definitely a minority at Trinity.

bump - I’d like to hear updated views on this topic…

Trinity has a visible gay population, but not as big or visible as Wesleyan/Vassar. EROS is the main lgbt group on campus, and it has its own house. Cinestudio also hosts the CT Gay and Film Festival every year. Trinity is NOT homophobic.

While trinity has its issues, I would in know way call it homophobic. Why it gets that reputation is beyond me. I have never witnessed or heard about any homophobic issues at at Trinity not have any of my homosexual friends at Trinity ever mentioned anything. While there is not as large a gay population at Trinity as there is at other schools, the gay population at Trinity is definitely noticeable.

mleat74, I think you are thinking of the Trinity in Texas.

Fortetennis- no, Trinity (conn) was definitely in the Princeton review top 10 for most homophobic colleges last year. It was also number 20 for unhappiest students; anyone know why this is?

Alligatorblood, that is no surprise to me. I have 2 “friends” who are very opinionated and very against LGBT at my school. Both are applying to Trinity as their first choice. Both are very serious and look very unhappy all the time.

If I have time I’ll ask them why they like Trinity.

The worst few years on my life in regards to sexuality – Trinity is one huge closet. Just two years ago in a campus of 2,200 I could count all the out men on campus with both hands and one foot. The school tries these big shows of gay friendliness : Eros film fest, drag show to his the fact that there is no gay life to speak of nor institutional support/acknowledgement for gay issues. If you’re gay-- please reconsider, it was difficult. Needlessly so-- wish I had gone to Wesleyan or somewhere in NY. Maybe in a few yrs it will be better but… while it figures it out, don’t be a guinea pig. And especially if you’re a gay black man if color-- God bless you. Glad I got through.
