Queries on Class Size. URGENT.

i'm an international student, so i'm not certain how it works there. apparently, it seems alot of american high schools hv class sizes in the hundreds. over here, an average class size is approximately 30 students. our idea of a class size here is the number of students in a class (yes, i know, sounds rather DUH). say... grade 12 has 600 students. there are 20 classes, so 30 students per class.

yet the american high schools hv class sizes in the hundreds. so i'm wondering whether the definition of a class in the US is different. does the class in the US denote the number of students in that grade? cos, i mean, when ppl graduate, they often refer to themselves as class of [insert yr]. so class in that usage sounds more like the entire cohort. unless of course u ppl really do hv classes of hundreds of students each (which i definitely did not see in The OC, Life as We Know It, One Tree Hill, you get the idea). i mean, reading stuff like cc-ers mentioning "oh, u're ranked no 1? but ur class size is so small, just 30 students; ur valedictorian status isnt going to WOW the adcoms" gives me the feeling, nay, the definite knowledge that a class size of 30 students is a weird thg there. so really, what the hell is a class there? the cohort? or the students in a classroom (e.g. say grade 12, class B aka 12B has 30 students, so the class size here is 30 students)?

Class size refers to all of the students at a particular grade level: for instance, 600 seniors (students in the last year of high school).

The class size of individual courses will probably be 35 or fewer, but that's not what "class size" refers to when people are describing their high schools.

High school class size is determined by the number of total students in their level or grade in school. For example there can be 600 seniors (Grade 12) in a school which would be the reported size of the class. These 600 students can be taking a variety of subjects (classes) in school so they might have 30 students in a calculus class.

So class size as reported to colleges would be 600 in this case.

ok, i hv a problem. cos my wesleyan freeman form has this thg here.

The candidate ranks number ____ in a class of ___ students. be sure to include class size even if exact numerical rank is not avail.

if possible, please indicate student's rank in entire form or grade ______

so... err... going by the description of class size by u guys, arent they both the same?

What happens if all students of the same cohort take the same standardised national exams? Will the class size be the size of the entire cohort of students in the nation taking the standardised exams, or just the number of the students in the same grade in my school ONLY?

help? .....

random:

the app is asking for the total amout of kids who will be graduating with you. For example, my Son's HS was 2000+ total students, approximately 500 per Class (typical US high schools are four years); his actual graduating senior class was 510 students. So, a GC would say that a kid ranks number xx out of 510.

OTOH, my Son's daily classes (small c) contained about 35 students each.

The app wants Class with a big C.

Good luck.

The candidate ranks number ____ in a class of ___ students. be sure to include class size even if exact numerical rank is not avail.

if possible, please indicate student's rank in entire form or grade ______

yes, i get what u said. but doesnt the entire form/grade = the class with a big C? if that be the case, why are they asking for the same info twice? see, rank in class of ____ students. u said this is the class with a big C. number of ppl graduating with me.

rank in entire form/grade, isnt this my rank among those who are graduating with me as well? what is the diff?!

its the same question
