I'm a Pisces if that helps to know what type of person I am and help answer the ques., and I have a bunch of questions--

If you're transferring, how many colleges can you be accepted to?

I'm transferring in the spring next year. I'm not sure what are my chances to get accepted into the following colleges: CUNY Queens, City, and Baruch.
I'm an average person so in HS, I got a 2.6, and in the 1st semester of college, I got a 3.06. SAT was probably 1510. Extra: I was in choir in HS and I did a lot of service learning in the past 2 years.

So far, I only heard from 1 college, but that college isn't considered great. 4 in 1 students would not go back there and it is a 3rd tier school. It's also located in what was considered a bad neighborhood which I guess may represent the student population. The problem is should I stay in my college (private, expensive, more safety = less accidents [ex. burglars, fights]) or should I transfer to that college (public, cheaper, 'bad' people). I picked colleges just for academics, but I also want to feel safe while I learn. Plus this transfer college wasn't my 1st choice, which made me very disappointed.

I changed my major for the transfer colleges, but I may want to major in my original major and just minor in the majors that I put down for the transfer colleges. Will that impact my acceptance and when should tell them I may want to major in my original major?

You should choose the best compromise of safety/happiness, price, and academics IMO.

Burglaries and fights are not accidents.

I took your saying that you’re “transferring in the spring next year” to mean one year from now. If so, you have a lot of time, apply to a bunch of places and pick the best one. If you mean like a week from now, I would just wait and transfer for summer or fall. No need to make a hasty decision and regret where you transfer to.

If you haven’t heard back from your 1st choice why don’t you call/email and find out when you will likely receive a decision?

As for changing your major, I don’t know what year you are(Freshman,Soph, etc) but you either have time to change it later, assuming the major isn’t some kind of limited access program or you have no time to waste and should call/email admissions as soon as you decide for sure which major you want.

sk8rmom - SUNYs are more expensive, plus I’ll have to dorm and find the application process tedious.
NotAClue - I meant spring 2011; I think I should’ve been more clear? I was also thinking staying in my current college for the spring semester and then transferring in the fall. I didn’t know you can transfer in the summer. I should look up how 'cause I’m not sure if CUNY does that.
I did call them, but got hung up for some reason. I’m a Freshman and thanks for your reply!

Usually colleges that have a policy of not requiring high school grades don’t look at them if you will be transferring the equivalent of 2 years of full time college credit.

College_ruled is correct although I have found a couple that only require 24 or 30 credits before a hs transcript is not required. Most of the time though it seems that about 60 credits is the magic number.

As for transferring in the summer it really depends on the school. Some do it and some don’t.

I have had pretty frustrating experiences communicating with admissions departments at most colleges I’ve tried to contact. Just keep trying.

I would stay at your current college another semester because it is so late to be figuring things out for spring. Many colleges have deadlines between march and June for fall transfer applications. So even at the earliest that gives you 2 months to figure it all out.

thanks for your replies!
Assuming collegeboard is a good place to look, 24 credits seems to be the magic number for the colleges I’m looking at. However, City is 14 and I already have 16. I looked up the requirements and I seem to pass them all, so I don’t understand why I didn’t get in.

‘As for transferring in the summer it really depends on the school. Some do it and some don’t.’
Would that be the relocation application? I heard about it, but don’t know where to look for more info on it.

I called again today but to no avail.

I’ll have to look up when the fall application starts. I just found out there’s Direct Admission. Should I give that a try?
