I recently came across Quest Bridge as a rising Junior, and I am curious whether it would be worth applying, as I am of lower socioeconomic class. What are the benefits of being apart of this? Will it have a significant effect on one’s college apps?
bump
Definitely! I’m doing it this year and I’ve met so many people through the Facebook group who are very supportive, even though we are all technically each other’s competition. The benefits are that, if chosen, you get all application fees waived for their highly competitive partner colleges and if selected for the NCM, you get a full ride. The downside is that unfortunately only about 5-6% get matched, but look, if you don’t apply through QB, this opportunity would probably not even exist. You also get your college app done a little earlier, so if you’re a procrastinator like myself, you’ll get it done earlier. As for its influence in admissions, I hear it’s not really a leg up, but more so an alternative. So if you are smart, poor, and have a story to tell, this is an amazing one in a lifetime opportunity you should definitely apply for! Good luck!
If you are selected as a finalist, it is an honor/award to list on your application. It is a way to bring attention to your interest in a partner college. If you choose to participate in NCM then you have a chance for a full ride. If you don’t get selected for that, because you don’t have a 0 EFC perhaps, you might be invited to be admitted in the EA/ED or RD round. You can still apply RD to QB partners and other colleges. For QB partners, your QB application will go too, so they can get more details about you than there is room for on the Common Application.
Yale admitted 80 Questbridge scholars this past year… Think about that for a moment and then decide It is very very very significant but remember also that all quest-bridge students are every bit as exceptional as their wealthier peers but it acts as a pretty big hook!
