Questbridge - 2007-2008

lol. that's what i would like to know, kai. this is some crap. i'm not impressed. lol. i got excited for nothing.

I actually really wanted to attend Stanford's conference because it's one of my top choices for next year and it would be a great opportunity to take a look at the school.

Too bad QuestBridge isn't offering expense-paid trips.

BTW, they offered SAT prep and laptops last year? I would have preferred either of those in comparison to the conference..

I wonder what the stats were of the people that got the summer program scholarships? How many of you are first generation? I'm not. I hope they pay for the conference travel but I doubt it. Why would they then give the same award to someone rejected (sorry that sounds harsh).
Oh just read its not paid for ) : Oh well I think this is kind of a joke. I mean how is a low income student suppose to pay for this???

wait, kai, where did you find out that the conference is not for free? I thought you just had to pay for traveling

We look forward to continuing our relationship with you as you explore your educational options, and we hope to connect you with additional scholarship opportunities.
^ those were their last words to me in the email
additonal scholarship opportunities?

oh the conference is free
just not the traveling
but i mean, traveling probably costs more than the conference im assuming
if you come from Florida like Rosh
and has to go to Rice university in texas
thats 400-500 in roundtrip tickets
you know?

i'm glad they at least said it was because i wasn't poor enough, and not the other stuff on the application

[/quote]

XD well I'm apparently poor enough but not qualified enough.

edit:

well, I can sit around here reading all you guy's complaints about your acceptances (which make me feel real peachy, btw. Be happy with what you got, please) but I'm just going to bring myself down. Good job (on getting the scholarship, I mean) , guys. :)

haha ya I am not too upset about visiting which of the schools (yale, stanford...) becuase honestly, if any of them will take me, I am SOOO THERE!! :)

Well, on the upside, you can at least write this award on your college app. Not major, but better than nothing.

ya I am not 1 generations either. Actually, I am not sure, what if only my mom didn't go to college?? But then my dad has a PH.D. and works for Caltech, so does that offset the balance or something!?

Is anyone else going to the Pomona one?? If the conference is free, I will go check it out. funny thing, the conference is on the last day for school for me!!

Ugh. Kai, your letter was better than mine. They never once talk about continuing to provide me with additional scholarships. Ugh. :o You people are too smart. Make me feel bad. :(

I'm not first generation either. :p

The conference is free like most college fairs but the travel expenses aren't so basically if you live close you get the opportunity. Oh well the prize is another way to pad the college applications. So far I have GA Gov finalist but no cigar, I'm a TASP finalist and most likely no cigar because my interview didn't go very well IMO, and a Questbridge finalist. I feel like always the bridesmaid never the bride lol!!!

well.
i think its more of need-based
my parents are retired.
so i basically work to pay for the bills and such
don't be too bummed out rosh.
im not really smart
i just try hard

lol
most college fairs?
yeah theres a college fair at my school next week
hahaha
oh yeah
i am first generation
my parents are middle/high school dropouts?

grskt89, it's ok. I have NO idea what to do this summer. I got "overqualified' on WTP (what the heck does that mean anyway) and waitlisted everwhere else. This is kinda of depressing. On well, I am going to the ontario mall tomorrow!!!!! haha kai, you might know where that his :)

you guys all applying for the college match??? I am!

oh well
i guess i still have
telementoring from amherst university
which means, mentoring on the telephone?
hmm.
makes me sad now
i should be studyin for ap tests
=/

Hm.. well, I just received the email for this Questbridge thing too, and I received college admissions counseling, and the Conference at Pomona, but I'm just curious, what did you guys write about for your essays?

I didn't get offered any additional scholarships!

"On behalf of all of the QuestBridge staff, we are pleased to congratulate you once again on your College Prep Scholarship award. We look forward to continuing our relationship with you as you explore your educational options."

Continuing our relationship? They better pick me for the College Match program! :D

waiyan, I wrote about the first time I went swimming in 10th grade (yes, a true story). Because of my Islamic faith, I was not able to swim until then when my Jewish friend reached out to me and encouraged me to swim. The essay was pretty great. I think it was one of the strongest parts of my application.

haha yeah.
whats WTP?
haha
ontario mall?
oh they have good delas there
while ur there, u might as well go to tyler mall and the galleria at riverside
really nice?
is college match way more competitive?

How do I apply for the college match?

hmm
seems like these formats for "accepted finalists" are
not the typical generic "congratulations"
they took time to write each student a different letter?
