[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Harvard Model Congress Boston 2018 and 2019 (Captain of HMC team this year), Founded a food bank at my school sophomore year (founder, organizer, “president”), Varsity Cross Country freshman/sophomore year, varsity indoor and outdoor track freshman/sophomore year, varsity womens lacrosse as a starting defender junior year, Freshman Mentor, put caring for my household as an extracurricular as it takes up a sizeable chunk of time and keeps me from doing more stuff. I have more to put down but space was limited.
[] Job/Work Experience: None, but as I stated I have to care for my household nearly full time
[] Volunteer/Community service: Founded a food bank at my school which serves some of the surrounding community, did some volunteer work with 5k’s at a local military base freshman year
[] Summer Activities: Took 2 summer classes freshman and sophomore year, this summer I’ll be attending NC Governors School for English
[] Essays: Short answers: “concept or theory you’ve explored” was on segregation in schools today. Partly inspired by Stuyvesant, partly inspired by segregation in my county. Tied well into my political science theme and was well written so I’d say 9/10. “Experience that caused you to change your opinion” was on the 2016 election and how it sparked a passion within me for politics and public justice. Again, pretty good but kinda basic so 8/10. “What do you admire most about your community” was on how my town banded together to help a teacher who lost a parent after Hurricane Florence wrecked his hometown and ours. Pretty emotional so I’d say 10/10. My long essay was on how planning for a better future, finding self-motivation/drive to succeed, and focusing on school work/learning as much as I could as a child helped me navigate an abusive home life. Emotional, but not my best work after reading over it now. 7/10.
[] Teacher Recommendations: I didn’t read my recommendation but it came from my AP Lang/Lit teacher who I work with on the food bank and whose class I did really well in. We have a good connection and I talk to him about a lot of things, plus he’s a strong writer so I’d say 9/10
[li] Counselor Rec: Don’t think this was required so I didn’t submit[/li][/ul]

Why you think you were accepted/not accepted and general comments: I think my essays and recommendations were really strong and allowed me to explain why Questbridge was so important to help me succeed. I could demonstrate how driven I am to achieve my academic and career goals despite a kind of rough life and that’s what they like to see. I wish I could’ve waited longer to submit my higher test scores or gone back and re-submitted those because I was worried they may have been too low at the time. I submitted my application very last minute which had me worried also, but it all worked out! I applied for a few quest for excellence awards and the pioneer research programs but ended up getting nominated for free college visits, which I’m totally cool with! I would’ve liked to get into the pioneer research programs but I’m SUPER happy regardless. Congrats to everyone who got in and if you didn’t it’s okay! You’re all awesome no matter what
