Questbridge College Match 2016 Applicant Thread

Did anyone else get an email from Columbia congradulating you on your match but that they will be withdrawing our application? I thought that only the matched school was aware of whether you matched or not.

8 to Macalester

@IsaacTheFuture I got that email as well.

@IsaacTheFuture During the match process, QB Partners that you ranked only knew if you were trying to match with them or not. They did not know the # of schools you were trying to match with, which schools you ranked or the rank order. But QB does provide them with a list of all finalists who match and to where. So now they know at least that much.

Some QB partners will now automatically remove you from consideration, but all matched finalists (to binding partners) are supposed to now officially withdraw all other outstanding applications themselves… since they know where they will be attending and so other applicants can be judged without extraneous applications being considered and potentially taking spots away, etc.

yes! I got a general questbridge one and one about early decision. Still have no idea if I should do it

yes! I got a general questbridge one and one about early decision. Still have no idea if I should do it

Did anyone else recieve an email from Williams (they were on my match list) asking them to consider applying ED or RD as they were a “strong applicant”? Can’t decide if this is a generic email or a good omen.

Attention! Former Questbridge applicant here. For my questbridge application last year I had put down Columbia (1) and Yale (2), but unfortunately was not matched to either. I got the email to apply to Columbia through ED and to be honest was pretty skeptical. Why would a college that had just rejected me accept me just a week later? However, I decided to go through and was accepted!!!

So just a little advice. If you get the email from Columbia about applying Ed I HIGHLY recommend you go through with it if Columbia is undoubtedly your FIRST choice. Sometimes it is not that you are not qualified academically to be matched to Columbia through college match, but that there are other students that are more stressed financially and are in need of the full scholarship more. Surprisingly I have actually met quite a few students that went through the same process as I did with not getting matched but getting accepted through ED.

I believe Columbia requires no parental contribution for tuition if your income is below $60,000. However, there is a student contribution each year which came out to about $5000 for me.

And Columbia just generally meets your financial need even if your income is above $60,000.

Congratulations to all of those who matched!

14 to Haverford, though I may need to get confirmation on that

Didn’t match.
@Quester1999 I also received an email from Williams asking me to consider them from early or regular decision because I am a “strong applicant” however I did not attempt to match with Williams, so I’m not sure how to feel about it.

@Karolling84 , if Williams interests you, apply! If not, don’t. All the schools that participate know that QB has done them a huge service in its screening and selection process and know that any finalist is going to be a strong candidate.

@Karolling84 Did they ask you to submit a common app? Or just the questbridge app?

@WWWard Do the blank ones, like Brown and Oberlin, mean that no one has posted about their decision, or that no one has been accepted so far?

@SingHar17 I know that Brown and Stanford have accepted finalists via Match, but apparently they failed to list the total # matched when communicating with those matched. Others did, which is how we have the total #s

If the #s above are correct, there are still 91 matched finalists unaccounted for… and matched to:

BROWN UNIVERSITY -
CARLETON COLLEGE -
OBERLIN COLLEGE -
STANFORD UNIVERSITY -

@Quester1999 The email stated that for Early decision that I only need to submit my questbridge application but for regular decision I need to submit the common or coalition application.

Pomona actually matched 16 this year. I’m on their chapter page and they just announced it

Does anyone know when we will hear from colleges regarding our match? On the QB page, the date for Swarthmore was Dec. 2 (today) but I was not contacted.

The results for 4 QB Partners remain a mystery… but what a range – from a low of 2 to a high of 80.
