Two days!! Super nervous because our income is right below the threshold; may be the thing that holds me back
Ahhhh my body is NOT ready.
covenas98 we went through the same dilemma 2 years ago. S decided to follow his instinct (I wanted him to rank instead so as to have several possibilities but he could not live with himself without doing absolutely everything to boost his Yale app). If S #2 is lucky enough to become QB finalist next year I hope that he will rank, we’ll see. S #1 did EA at UVa at the same time, which is permitted because it is a public school. If I remember correctly they specifically state at Yale that they will only match a finalist whose family has a 0 EFC.
@latinvibes @QueenOfBohemia shaking and stomach hurting those are my physical reactions to my anxiety ahhh I don’t even know if I want to check on Thursday I’ve spent so many hours on the app it’s crazy!!! Just trying to think positive thoughts at this point
@momcinco my daughter had planned to do NCM but today decided to SCEA for Yale. We are almost 0 EFC if not considering non custodial parent.
If she is a finalist she will RD through QB providing Yale doesn’t happen.
What was your sons experience or insights with his decision?
@future1997 what time of day were the results posted last year? Does anyone know when they may be posted this year? Anxiety is eating me alive lol
1:46pm eastern @soukaryag
Last year, only 0.11% of America’s 4.6 million high school seniors were named as QuestBridge Finalists. So, if you are named a QB Finalist, it is quite an accomplishment as I see it.
Good luck…
@WWWard Haha, that 0.11% is quite a misleading statistic. Out of that 4.6 million, only about 15 thousand apply to QB so…
I’m a bit nervous, but mostly excited. I just want to fall asleep already and wake up to an email in my inbox. Good luck, everyone!
@676339784 yes - that much is true too.
But neither you nor QB can control that. If the # of applicants magically jumped by 10 times this year, I doubt that the # of finalists would jump by that margin. Like all potential opportunities, they have to be taken advantage of to realize the final pay-off. Choosing to apply and committing the time needed to do so is step one.
From what I have been told, only about 5% of those who even get contacted about QB choose to apply. So the first 95% of the prospective applicant pool (those who at least know about QB and/or were recommended to consider applying) self-evaluate and choose not to even apply - for whatever reason. If they were qualified and chose not to apply, that is their loss.
The vast majority who do apply are generally well-qualified, but only maybe 30% of those become finalists… and then only 16% of QB Finalists who try to Match actually Match successfully. And that final # of 657 last year represented quite a small percentage of the overall pool of seniors… 0.014%. Anyway you slice it, the # of finalists (4895) and the # of matched finalists (657) is very small versus the total # of high school seniors out there (4,600,000). So… if you are named a finalist, embrace it! You accepted the challenge and found a good way to differentiate yourself among millions of competitors. There is nothing wrong in taking full advantage of the extra assistance that QB provides…
Good Luck…
I have actually heard many different people, including QB applicants themselves, sort of downplay the significance of becoming a QB Finalist simply due to the relatively low # of initial applicants. I believe though that this is a huge mistake to do so.
Look at the Rhodes Scholar program. While it is likely the most prestigious collegiate scholarship program in existence, selecting only 32 Americans each year, the reality is that only 850 or so American college kids even officially apply annually. It is not the resulting 3.7% acceptance rate that makes it special. Millions of college kids would love to be able to become Rhodes Scholars… but only 32 annually become so. The real rate is more like 32/millions.
My point is… just focus on yourself, your QB candidacy and hopefully the new found honor of becoming a QB Finalist. How it eventually aids your college admissions chances and your ability to pay for such is the ultimate prize.
Again… good luck. Hours away now and then only 43 days to Dec 1st…
OMG, its comng out tomorrow. I’m so apprehensive! I kind of feel that I won’t make it since my application wasn’t that good. I forgot to mention my leadership positions!! Oh well, I hope for the best for everyone!!
My body is still not ready.
Good luck, y’all!
I wish it was at midnight instead…i dont know how i’ll get any sleep
I’m nervous too. My second recommender missed the deadline to submit her letter of recommendation. I’m low income, but I have unusual assets. Let’s see how this plays out…
I did not rank any colleges and chose to go through their regular decision process.
Good luck to all those who applied!!
Why the H are results not out yet!!
@blink24
Do you know what time they are supposed to come out?
In previous years, in the range of 1:45 to 3pm, Eastern
I’m SUPER nervous. I won’t be surprised if I’m not a finalist, but it’s still a lot of pressure (my brother was a finalist). To be honest I’m not sure how I will react if I am selected.
