Questbridge College Match 2016 Applicant Thread

Also, @WWWard do they email you their decision or do you have to check your portal account?

@monkeylol

At some point during the day on the 1st, QB will email you letting you know that your account online has been updated, encouraging you to go check your portal. I do not believe that the email itself will tell you the results. But… if you start checking it yourself from around 3pm eastern and onward, you will likely see the update that way first… prior to receiving the QB email.

Many - but not all - have also indicated in the past that they received direct phone calls… either from QB or the university that you matched with… or sometimes from both.

The colleges cannot give out the info earlier than the 1st, as QB has to compare potential mathces with their lists and determine rankings, etc. The school has no way of knowing if their acceptance will equal a match until QB confirms it.
In theory, a college could agree to match with 100 finalists only to realize later that none of those become actual matches.

Good Luck

Only one day away. Everyone ready and excited? Yes - the odds are steep, but last year 16% of QB Finalists were extremely happy after Dec 1st. Good luck to all of this year’s applicants participating in the QB NCM process…

I could not locate a list created on Dec 1, 2015.

@screenNameExists Just keep in mind that the QB Partners themselves cannot control the results. If a college agrees to match with 50 finalists, but most of those finalists match with a higher ranked college elsewhere… we never see a corresponding match reflected for that college.

@WWWard Thank you very much! So you are saying that the colleges above probably accepted more applicants than the stated numbers, but these are the number of finalists that matched?

@screenNameExists That’s exactly what @WWWard means. My son was one of the 10 Haverford matches on the 2013 list, but they weren’t the only Questies that year.

The following year, Haverford matched 18 – that’s 5% of the freshman class…

I wish someone had compiled a similar list for 2015. Perhaps someone in 2016 will.

Does anyone know what time the results will come out? Or is it random?

@screenNameExists

You’re welcome.

Yes… the #s of potential acceptances could be much higher, but with obvious overlaps, as only 500-600 or so matched with anyone in total in 2013 and 2014. 657 did so in 2015.

For example, in 2014, Brown apparently only matched with one finalist. I doubt though that they only accepted one. Brown in theory could have accepted or been willing to match with more than UChicago, who matched with 57.

QB Partners only know that a finalist applicant is attempting to match with them. They do not know if you are trying to match elsewhere or with who or the ranking. They can simply either agree to accept you via NCM or pass. All QB Partners clearly pass most of the time, as only 16% last year matched with anyone. But for every one of the 657 matches last year, there could be up to 11 more acceptances. That is of course unlikely, as most do not rank 12, but it is in theory possible.

All of the 657 could have been accepted by one or more other QB Partners, but those acceptances are never reflected anywhere as acceptances or matches. We will never know the real #s for any of these QB Partners as they and QB are unlikely to announce them. Even UChicago, who routinely matches with the most, likely misses out on many more than they match with.

It is clearly a very odd form of yield at work, as they have to agree to accept finalists and then also hope that someone you ranked higher does not agree too. All we really know is that last year 657 QB Finalists out of 4100 or so eventually matched with someone.

Hopefully the # this year will be higher still…

Good Luck

@monkeylol Usually announcements begin around 3-4pm Eastern on the 1st.

Thank you! @WWWard

@monkeylol You’re welcome

How likely is it that we get accepted in regular decision?

percentage wise…

@monkeylol

Fairly likely. Per QuestBridge… “Last year, more than 2,000 Finalists were admitted to a college partner through QuestBridge Regular Decision — the majority of QuestBridge Scholars gain admission through this process.”

So, if you add the 657 in 2015 admitted via the Match Process to the 2000+ in 2015 admitted via RD, that equates to 2657+ out of 4800 or so total QB Finalists gaining admission via NCM and RD combined.

In total then, at least 55% of all QB Finalists gained admission to a QB Partner last year.

To further the goal of creating a complete list of Matches by QB Partner for 2016 (12/1/2016), as you each hear about the total # matched tomorrow, or the #s matched to each QB Partner College, please feel free to copy, edit and paste this QB Partner List until it is fully complete…

Help

Best of luck to everyone tomorrow! Regardless of what happens, I’m so proud of all my fellow Questies

@WWWard Is there any University that accepts all the Questbridge Finalists that applied to their University?
