Hey guys, it’s the beginning of April and I cannot stand the wait! Anyone else applied and feel the same way I feel?
Yes I applied as well! I’m anxious to hear something! Do you know when we get notified?
@lovinglife01 Yes, I am too! I literally count the days down. [Kinda pathetic for me, hahah. But this is the first time I have ever applied a scholarship. I’m super scared.] They said late April. In 2014, results were released on April 22 and last year on April 30.
Hopefully we both will be successful! I got an email from them and I was so scared to open it but it was just saying that they will notify everyone in late April! :))
@lovinglife01 I know right! Haha, I was so ansxious but sigh
Now that school has started back again for me, I feel like time’s flying.
bump
Yeah, I applied and I’m feeling the same way. Does anyone know anything about the summer programs? I received an email from Questbridge about the Notre Dame program, but I would prefer to go to another.
@wispanic omg, i really want to get into a summer program i didn’t receive any letter, haha. i’m really nervous now. i wanna cry Congratulations to you about your Notre Dame program! I haven’t heard of anyone else who got into a program so I can’t help, haha. But hey, if you received an email saying you were nominated for a summer program then that means you got in! You’re a CPS!
@wispanic congrats on the summer program! I personally think that being able to go to any of the summer programs would be a great opportunity! What was the name of the summer program that they emailed you about?
& @Menduch Hey, if there’s a will there’s a way! Keep thinking positive and hopefully we will all have positive results! Maybe we will know in two weeks or so?
@lovinglife01 thank you! I’m still hoping but it’s all so agonizing haha. Wish you luck too. Let’s all cross our fingers!
@Menduch Don’t be nervous, there are plenty of other summer programs for QuestBridge that you might’ve still gotten into :). Also thanks for telling me about being a CPS, I actually didn’t realize it. I’m sure you have a good chance of still being a CPS. What were your stats/essay about?
@lovinglife01 It is a great opportunity - my bad if it came off otherwise. I’m pretty excited about it, and I have a good idea about what to write for my essay. Specifically, the program that they emailed me about was “Science, Ethics, and Responsibility”.
@wispanic I didn’t apply to any other summer programs. At the time I never though of it because for almost every one of them, I’d have to finance it, so yeah. Thank you for the reassurance and you’re welcome! I’m actually really happy for you
Well…
GPA (UW): 3.9 - 4.0
Extracuriculars: school choir, Peer Helpers (vice president)
Income Bracket: < $30,000
Hooks: Asian minority & first generation
Okay, now that I look at it, i can see why I’d have the chance to be rejected haha. I have very few EC’s because my school does not offer many options for other activities. Apart from sports teams, I don’t really see anything that we can do. i have participated in science fairs and last year, my group won first place in a national science fair.
My short answers were good, I believe. I actually really liked them. My essay was satisfactory. I didn’t really get to run it through with my teacher but I got other people to check it. I know the grammar is not a problem but I hope the content is okay. I wrote about how my inability to speak up hindered me from success and how I eventually overcame my incompetence as I progressed further into my high school life.
Ah, this sounds like an entire essay already hahah. thanks for reading this far. How about yours? What were your stats? What do you think determines if you’ll receive a nomination for a summer program or not? Because there was a question, but it was only 100 words so you could barely write anything there to show your enthusiasm about the programs
@Menduch
My stats were:
GPA (W): 4.0
Extracurriculars: Ambassadors program (basically helping new students and prospective 8th graders), Board Game Club (Chairman), and exercising (although this isn’t through anything official so I’m not sure if they cared about it).
Income Bracket: <$25,000 (not sure if that was an option, I might’ve put <$30,000).
Hooks: URM (Hispanic), immigrant to America, divorced parents, very low income.
SAT: 2130 (680 M, 750 CR, 700W).
Did you put down SAT or PSAT scores? Because otherwise, our stats seem pretty similar, so I’d say the only reason I got picked instead of you was being an URM. I don’t think my short answers or essays were any good; I typed up my essay and answers about 2-3 hours before the due date. I can pm you my short answer for the summer program questions if you’re interested in seeing what I wrote. My essay topic was about coming to America - I spoke about how it was difficult adjusting to life here in terms of culture and language, and about how I grew up poor but my parents always did their best to provide for me, and that the whole reason we moved to America was for my future, so there was always pressure/a belief that I would get into college. I think it was just average, I didn’t have a chance to look it over so I’m not sure.
As for what determines if you’ll receive a nomination, I’m really not sure. When I spoke with a Questbridge staffer, she never mentioned anything. I’m assuming it’s a combination of my stats + my URM status, but I’m not sure. Also, when you say you’re an Asian minority, do you mean you’re Asian, or that you are a minority within Asians (like Hmong people)? I think race and gender might’ve been the difference, because our stats are otherwise very similar.
Man, that was a lot of writing. Let me know if you want to look at any of my essays or short answers and I’ll pm you.
First time applying to scholarship too. I decided to apply for it, then later changed my mind but at the last second i changed my mind again so i ended up starting my app at 9pm est…i barely finished in time, turning it in at 2:30am…so i doubt i got in lol essays were so rushed.good luck to everyone else though~~
@tagi1998 My story’s pretty similar to yours - I ended up finishing the essays and short answers around 1:00 AM, so you still have a good chance of getting in. Good luck to you and everyone else as well.
@wispanic Yeah, my income bracket was the same as yours, haha. Nope, I haven’t taken any PSATs or SATs yet. I’m planning to take the SAT in June but I’ve really been slacking in my study schedule because of school work and student council campaigning. Yeah, I typed up my essay 2 days before the due date haha. A few of the short answers were rewritten on the same day! I’m Asian but I don’t live in the US. I do have American citizenship though, and I asked before so I do think I am eligible. Yes please, that would be great! I’d love to check them out
@tagi1998 Same! I finished the app at 12:30 in the morning and submitted it half an hour before the deadline.
I got an email back from Yu-Ree from Questbridge, and she stated that the Notre Dame summer program would give an email response back beginning of next week. I’d look out for emails from other programs beginning after that Notre Dame program, they might be given out starting next week.
I just checked my app and I realized that I didn’t tick that summer program. I hadn’t ticked a lot of programs because I thought that I was going somewhere for summer but now we’re not even sure about those plans, haha. goodness, i wish i’d ticked them. oh well.
Well, I was just officially accepted into the Notre Dame Summer Leadership Seminar for Science, Ethics, and Responsibility. Was anyone else accepted into this program or another?
@wispanic Congrats!
