Hi! I was wondering if I would be Questbridge eligible.
My parents are separated but split custody.
My mom would make me Questbridge eligible but my dad makes more money. However, my dad is unwilling to pay for college or submit any financial documents. Would I be eligible for Questbridge?
I’m sorry you are in this situation.
Most Questbridge partners use CSS Profile and require financial info from both parents if they are separated/divorced. Because you have contact with your dad, you won’t qualify for a non-custodial parent waiver. A parent who doesn’t want to contribute to college is not a valid reason for getting an NCP waiver. So, QB won’t be an option for you. What year of HS are you in?
ETA: here is the QB page where it says the noncustodial parent’s financial info must be included. QuestBridge | National College Match: Who Should Apply
Also…Starting with this year’s FAFSA, the parent who files FAFSA will be the one who provides the most financial support, not the parent who the student lives with the most, so that may potentially impact you too.
You can enter both parents’ incomes and assets (as if they were still together) on the NPC for a generous meet need college, such as Vassar or Davidson or Cornell.
Is you net price 0 or below 10K? Then you’d qualify for Questbridge even if your dad makes more than your mom.
(“more” is relative, for instance if your mom works as a preschool assistant and your dad makes 45K, it’s not the same as if your dad makes 100K…)
Also run the NPC on Vanderbilt: they don’t use custodial parent income in determining your net price.
