Finalist here

Great teacher rec and, from what my teacher said, good essays as well.

Not a finalist. Disappointed, as can be expected. I thought my app was unique enough to stand out and had some pretty solid stats. No. offense to anyone, but I’ve read people’s stats, and mine look better, plus I had really good essays and recommendations. Lots of ECs…I just don’t get it. It seems so random.

Can someone explain to me how the College Match program works? I am advising a student who has been selected as a finalist, he submitted the list of 8 colleges ranked. Now he needs to get the requirements met for each of those schools.

Questions: How does the ranking work? If the student put College A as his first choice, College B as his second choice, etc., do all of the colleges make an assessment about admission, send the results to QB and then QB matches the student with the highest ranked school on his/her list among the ones that accepted him/her?

Finalist! 35 ACT, 1990 SAT (will receive Oct. retake scores on the 25th), 3.974W GPA, ~$20,000 income (Mom is disabled), good EC’s good Essays, great Recs, first generation,

I am a finalist!

Re: my post above (#26), never mind. I finally found where this is explained on the QB website.

I am a finalist, <50K income
2060 SAT (620 CR, 650 W, 790 M)
3.7 W / 3.7 UW GPA (somehow)

Mediocre essays

I’m pretty puzzled why I’m not a finalist… Someone give me a hug or explain to me.
I don’t mean to be pretentious or anything but… I’m just pretty sad as well. PM me to give me motivational words haha

Income < 40,000

oAlex I’m stunned you didn’t final. With those stats and income I would have thought Ir’s in the bag. How were your essays?

My DD did final and I’m just as stunned that she did. I wonder if field of study comes into play at all? I think if you say ur going to major in philosophy u have a better chance then medicine. Less competition.
On the positive side with those stats most of those school are in ur reach and will probably given the same amount of fin. aid.
Remember that to get a quest scholarship the odd are worse then getting out of the Hunger Games alive!
{hugs} to you! I know it’s a downer but put it perspective…life is long!

3.9 U.W. G.P.A. Rank 1/400. SAT: 2200. Income <30k, no significant assets. EC’s are on the state level. Spent a long time on app. Didn’t make it.

Sorry, stark. That’s surprising. Tonight, QB had a webinar and said it took 4,500 finalists, which was 47% of the pool. More people didn’t make it than did.

hey youdontsay, how was the webinar? I wasn’t able to make it. any important stuff?

monk, it was good. I had two main questions going in (Do you still have to send SAT scores from CB to each college? And, when do we find out about Quest for Excellence awards?), and they were both answered (yes and January). Most of the stuff is on the website, but sometimes it just helps to have a real voice walk you through it, kwim?

Do they use a waiver number for the fees to send the score reports? We haven’t tried to order the score reports yet because my son wanted to wait on his SAT scores to come out today. I’m trying to get everything organized for him to just pop through the tasks when he gets home, but I don’t understand the waiver part. Can someone explain that for me? Thanks!

Your math score is phenomenal so I see why they would pick you!

You must remember that Questbridge is first and foremost a scholarship program. I saw your “Chance Me” thread and noticed that you have already received scholarships and grants. Questbridge might have taken note of that and decided that you were an applicant who could obtain several scholarships on your own as well as get into the colleges you seek. Your scores are steller and you have a rigorous transcipt. I can personally tell you that my scores were high but not as high as yours but there are numerous factors in the process of choosing finalists. I’m sure you’re the type of person who can achieve academic success on your own.
