Questbridge Scholarship - 2008

blddrake44, my D said that if it was over the 500 words that it just cuts itself off, and the reader will see the essay up to the cutoff point.

Madville, when my DD counselor sent in her materials, only the rec showed up in her locker, but still shows "tests and transcripts" not started. This was 2 weeks ago, and we emailed Questbridge. "Tests and Transcripts" were there (I saved confirming email) but her GC had not used the separate fax cover sheet for it, even though DD provided it for her. GC sent everything in under GC rec cover sheet, therefore "locker" would not show it. So if your S teacher somehow faxed his without the cover sheet with your S barcode on it, it would not show up as received either, hopefully that is what happened for you.

Hopefully there is a plausible explanation as my S teacher has stated that it was faxed in at least 3 days ago. I'll probably call just to confirm. (if I can get through) If there's no confirmation, I'm going to be pretty ticked.

madville, I have been trying to get through all morning to ask a question regarding faxing a corrected income amount, finally gave up and sent it by email, questions@questbridge.org. They have usually replied within the same day on a couple of previous issues.

I wonder if we should call them to add a picture to my application. I didn't have a file on my computer and now I do..

Bondgirl, I had the same! problem as you did, and it was annoying. The limit is harsh enough, and then empty lines and spaces count against you? Oh my... well I just didn't make paragraph spaces at all.

I was considering to email them and let them know about the spaces, so it doesn't look like a blob of text.

Also, even if we can't edit the questbridge application.. can my recommenders update their recommendations for the application once (if I am) chosen as a finalist and before it goes off to colleges?

whenever i go to the site it seems like i can still edit my app...what's up?

They had it taken down when I last checked (5 hours ago).

yes true dat...i just looked at my transcript and stuff and it shows test scores i told my counselor not to give...what should i do?

How are you getting onto look at your app, my D just tried, and it says, access denied on both edit app and view app. Thanks

Hey collegehopeful! You go to bronx? That's really cool! I mean I have to say it seems like you had to persevere through several things---an alcoholic parent, an aunt with cancer, and financial stuff. So all those things Questbridge will probably look favorably at. Your grades and scores are good and you did a great deal of extra curricular things. To me, it sounds good! But i'd say essays are also quite important...what did you write about? How did you feel about them? Good luck! hope we both make the finals!

I wrote about my relationship with my mom. It was really really really really good. I normally don't brag but it made someone outright cry and feel i should be accented to any school right away. This was an adult.

and good luck to you! i think most people with decent scores will make the finals. The avg act is only a 27. where do u go to hs? whats your first choice? goodluck to everyone.

"Organic Molecules in history" hehe interesting. By any chance did you guys read Guns, Germs and Steel?

I have a q:
If one were to become a finalist but eventually did not get matched, would that person be able to apply RD to the partner schools including the ranked ones. For example, say I ranked Yale and Stanford, and I got through to the finalist round, but did not get matched. Can I apply to Yale and Stanford regular decision?

Because as I understand it the college match is much like ED/EA/SCEA, and one cannot apply to those and RD.

Also, did anyone get a final answer to whether or not we have to do the supplemental essays or can we use our questbridge ones? I guess I'll contact the individual colleges soon. And for the common app essay, can we use one of our qb essays or would that be frowned upon?

Knguyen142, I think that you can still apply to Yale and Stanford regular decision if you don't get matched early.
I believe that they usually defer their decisions to RD instead of directly rejecting people.

Collegehopeful, i'm from Queens Science @ York so, we're both in the sshs circuit. I didn't do the ACTs so, I don't know about me...my SATs were ok although my Math killed my contentness...i'm retaking it this Saturday. Yeah, your essay must really be something! I think my essays shed a light into my different way of thinking and hopefully QB sees this. I chose to write the "hero essay" , I talked about my mom and how her background has really changed me as a person and who I want to become, and finally, my last is about a speech I made on front of 700 people to promote diversity. My first choice is Wellesley so, you have no competition there! lol. I'm only applying there since it's my #1 school in the universe. How about you?

Princeton is my # 1 and then Stanford. I only put Yale and Stanford thoguh since I havent taken 3 Sat 2's yet.

good luck to you. i hear Wellesey is very good. Are you alos applying to Barnard?

Thanks! Yeah, Wellesley is in my opinion the best of the 7 sisters...nope, i'm not that interested in Barnard. More Mt Holyoke. Yeah, good luck to you too! Hope you make that #1.

Hey collegehopeful, your stats look very good. I'd say you have a good shot.

I'm also part of the sshs group, stuy.

collegehopeful78 great chances!! I am doing intel too! did you start on the app yet? pretty stressful, it looks like :(

and knguyen142, you can use the same essays for the common apps for (princeton yale....) I emailed a while ago and that's what they told me.
