Questbridge Scholarship - 2008

If I don't get in through QuestBridge, I will have seriously wasted a month of my life

this couldn't be more true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

noooo it's much much harder to suceed at a public school becuase grades are done on a bell curve. at cal, you have to get essentially 97% to get an A.

At universities like harvard and yale, the teachers are much more generous. Not only do THEY teach, rather than TAs, the class avg is set at a B+/A-

I am aiming for med school so a high college gpa is essential. getting a 3.9 at UCs are pratically impossible.

okay, so with the teacher Recs i gave my teachers to send to Stanford, i didn't know i had to attach those thingy's on the mailing envelopes. how bad is that? Should i tell me teachers to send it in again. (I also may have written the wrong address..who knows?)

Most top private schools don't grade on a bell curve? Huh, didn't know that. I thought all colleges grade on a curve. Interesting.

Anyone ranked Princeton?

For the common app I think I'm just gonna copy and paste the one about the significant event.

However, for the supplement, I'm torn between writing about:

1)Tell us about a person who has influenced you in a significant way.
2)Your own favorite quotation.

I want to write about Britney Spears for the significant (b4 she was crazy) bc I don't want to bore the admission officers writing about my teacher since everyone did. I want to write about the quotation...but I seem to can't find any good one at all. Any one has any thoughts?? I'd greatly appreciate it :)

hey guys, do our ranked schools have to receive our transcripts, recommendations, etc., via mail by November 1st , 2nd? or Are we safe as long as we send them in no later than November 1st , 2nd....Because if the deadline dates mean that the schools have to receive the requirements by that date, i need to send them in even before the finalists are announced, just like what many of u guys are doing...
Oh, and can Literature teacher be counted as English teacher? I already asked my Literature teacher for a recommendation, but I just found out yesterday that some schools have specific subject areas for recommenders (both humanities and literature weren't on the list)

Man, this whole process is so distressing blah...Good luck to everyone! =)

anyone want to answer my questions....

what schools are you referring to specifically?

Stanford
Princeton
Columbia

Those are the only ones from what i am applying to that i need the addresses for PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And should i just have my teachers send in my recs again if i have a chance im wrong?????

Princeton and Stanford require you to send the recs again
don't know about columbia
all the info is on the QBridge site tho

Four more days....Do they tell us Friday morning or Friday night? Because I have a few tests Fri. and I wouldn't want to sacrifice study time or get too depressed. :)

SAT comes out on thuresday too!!!

so if we took the OCT, we should call qbridge right away about it right?....assuming that it is a good score *cross finger!! :)

Whoa, I'm having a major brain freeze. Questbridge notifies us of finalist status by e-mail, right?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think. I'll be up all night on the 25th.

googl2008, I emailed Quest about October SAT scores affecting finalist status and according to them it would only have a bearing on when you actually apply to the colleges, not finalist status. It was an ambiguous response, so not 100% sure.

What if you have not taken the SAT reasoning? I know someone who also applied and she took her SAT's last OCT for the first time.

"You must submit at least one SAT score or one ACT score to be considered for a position as a finalist in the College Match. Follow the instructions below to ensure that we receive all of the appropriate testing information from you:"

well Jaw17, I think if you were on the bubble, a really really high SAT score might persuade the officer's minds otherwise ;)
but then again, they probably already or are really close to finalizing the list, so i dont' know how much it would affect ther decision.

yea knguyen142, but they are not going to be waiting last min for scores. Especially when some people's score reports a slightly delayed.

yes i am in the same predicament with sat scores.. I am hoping for a positive bump. Also, the october sat scores have to affect finalist status, because not everyone has been able to take an SAT test before this year....

and another thing, judging by the length of this thread... There are a lot more qb applicants than in previous years? Or is there always a thread like this with qb every year???

Ummm, I think only a few individuals have contributed to the discussion anyway, so that would not substantiate the notion of an increase in the applicant pool. But there is an increase in applicants indefinitely, as there are more partner schools and QB even admits that it predicts a slightly higher matched number.
