QuestBridge Scholarship

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if you will be applying to the QuestBridge program this fall. If so, will you select Yale as a match school?

I decided that if I'm a finalist I will choose Yale.

Best of luck, everyone.

Awesome, I didn't know that Yale participated in the QuestBridge Program. I know it didn't last year which shocked me, good luck.

yay! QB has now merged with Yale! to all you seniors out there, I wholeheartedly recommend this awesome program! good luck!!! if you have any questions, feel free to msg me! :D

Yea I am gonna rank it but probably second after Princeton. Where you rnak a school doesn't matter right?

Hey is it better to do questbirdge or just ...do it the "normal" way? Btw you still have to send applications to those schools right?

COLLEGE & IKW:

I'm not an expert on QB... but from what I know, it does matter what you rank a school because if, say, both Princeton and Yale match with you, but Yale is your #1 choice, then you will be bound to Yale.

As far as whether or not to apply QB or "normal" app... QB wins! I believe with QB you get to write eight-ish essays and the addcoms will read all of them rather than the two supplied by the common app. AND with QB if you are matched, then it's a full ride scholarship to the school you match with. HECK YES IT'S BETTER! :)

lols drolla; however, if you taht disadvantaged, Yale is REALLY generous...it will be full or almost full anyways

Oh, good point IKW. lol

just keep in mind that the percentage of getting matched is very very slim, so make sure you have a backup plan just in case ;) but yes, ranking colleges are very very important so pay heed to that. and while being in questbridge will certainly draw attention to your application, keep in mind that not being in questbridge but still having the qualities of being eligible for questbridge will most likely elicit the same results at Yale.

Is Questbridge really aimed at first generation students, or people who come from families who have always been low income, don't own a house, etc, as opposed to families who have some assets and college degrees, but may have experienced financial reversals and unemployment or underemployment for several years?

basically it's targeted to students from disadvantaged backgrounds...which can mean anything...if you're from a low-income background you're extremely qualified. if you're a first-generation college bound student you're in. you don't necessarily have to be a urm. you just have to have experienced some sort of dramatic setback whether it be financial factors, family , or cultural background...mainly though it's been known to target low-income, first generation, urm students...but you can still qualify for the scholarship under different circumstances

Why "ranking" those 8 schools is very important? I remember QB application said colleges won't see our ranking right? Because of that, I decide to try few IVY on that list that I didn't think about I would apply if there was no QB, does that hurt my chance to my real first-choice college?

Is it possible to rank just 2 colleges, like just Yale and Princeton, and if you get rejected by both, you do RD with other colleges without Questbridge?

How many people rank Princeton and Yale as their first choice and how many usually get matched?

And when is the deadline to apply?

It is possible to rank just two colleges. If you are not matched with both, you can still forward your QB application to the regular round and apply to both schools regular. In this case, the QB application is still a great supplement.

Don't rank colleges you would not be happy attending. If you get matched with a school, you're bound by ED to attend. Also, if you apply through QB, you can't apply ED or SCEA elsewhere.

Deadline is September 30th, so get started!

QB is great. It helped me get into Princeton and opened up a lot of doors such as an all-expenses paid flyback weekend to Princeton and an offer by Williams for the Tying Scholarship.

You say we can't do ED or SCEA anywhere else, which is understandable, but what about RD? Can we do RD with non-Questbridge schools, if we are not matched by then?

Celita,

Yes, you can apply to schools RD outside of Qb; however, if you are matched through QB-RD... then you have to pull your applications from the non-partner schools. You can still get the QB Scholarship through RD, but it's still binding through the match process.

It's somewhat complicated, but if you spend some time on the QB website, then I am sure you will eventually find all of your answers. =)
