Question about a class I am possibly missing before I transfer

I'll try to keep this short but basically, there is one major class I apparently did not take. I took one class from biology sequence at another CC different from my usual CC because there sequence was in two courses, and my school's was in three, so I would have not had to time to take all three courses before I intended to transfer because my usually CC did not offer any of the bio courses over the summer, but the other CC is. Sorry confusing I know.

So when I went back to my usual CC before fall semester, I brought course descriptions of both the class I did end up taking at the other CC, and the description of all three of the bio courses at my usual CC, because I discovered the second bio class at the other CC was too hard to get into, so I saw if I could see what class the one I took covered, I could take the other two courses in fall and spring, which is exactly what I have done.

Unfortunately, I found out, after being denied from most colleges I applied to (both UCs and CSUs), that I was missing a course from the bio sequence, which was a huge deciding factor in my applications to at least some of them. Apparently, the dean of the natural science department at my usual CC told me the class I took at the other school could replace a class here. This ended up NOT being an equivalent class, and it actually more matched the next course in the sequence that I took in fall, so I essentially took two more bio classes in fall and spring, one of which I technically already took, thus leaving me missing that one other course that I never took.

So now here I am, accepted into one of the UCs and they have mentioned nothing about this issue or this class, so now I am curious whether if I go there, I will be set back because they will require me to take this missing class before I can take upper division classes. Or maybe they viewed that class I took at the other school as equivalent to the one the dean said, when it really wasn't.

The school won't rescind my application if they discover they made a mistake in admitting me without the class right? Because I have in writing my acceptance conditions, and this is not mentioned? And also what about that missing class now, if they do see me as missing it will I be held back when I start in the fall? Or could they view it as completed? I am scared to call because my mind thinks they will rescind their offer if I bring to their attention this missing class.

Help :(

Somebody on the Berkeley page was admitted even though he had over 120 units. Apparently the admissions officer miss counted the units and admitted him because his application was strong enough. They didn’t take back their decision even after they noticed the oversight. I’m inclined to believe that if UC makes a mistake in determining you application they won’t take back their offer because there was no dishonesty on your part.

If it’s equivalent, you’re fine. If it’s not, they’ll probably just make you take that one class. Some of the UCs don’t enforce pre-reqs at all… at Berkeley they’re listed as a warning to students hoping to enroll, but the system itself won’t enforce that you’ve completed pre-reqs before signing up for a class. If the UC does enforce pre-reqs, your adviser or a professor can probably override the pre-reqs and get you into the class anyways. Or, you take the missing class in your first semester and take some non-bio classes or ones that don’t depend on the missing class with it. There’s plenty of options.

As for seeing if it articulates… at Berkeley you can check it online, it’s the DARS tab on bearfacts. But back when I transferred it took half a year before my coursework was actually on there, so that’s a bit late to help you now. :stuck_out_tongue: I assume other UCs have similar systems, but I’m not sure what they’d be called… and again, they won’t update for a while. Your adviser would be able to get you a better (and faster) answer.

I don’t think you would get rescinded for asking an adviser about the class… you should probably call and say that you’re not sure if class X articulates, and ask whether or not they recommend you retake the class.
