My history teacher gave me an awesome recommendation, but she started one sentence in the middle of the recommendation like so: "although he is quiet and modest... [nice stuff here]" This has caused me to become reluctant to submit her recommendation. Should I submit my science teacher's recommendation instead? (its a decent one -- basically contains trite sayings) Or should I just submit my history teacher's rec?

Also, is it OK if my counselor hand wrote her information on my Secondary School Report? (I realized that the Common App gives you a completed print out of the SSR in the Schools Form section a little too late)

bump…

How do you know what your history teacher said?

Recommendations have to be realistic - the best ones note some weaknesses as well as strengths so that the teacher looks like she knows you instead of openly praising you. As long as it’s an overall awesome letter I wouldn’t worry about that. Quiet and modest aren’t negative anyway - modest is a good word, it means you’re not insanely bragging about yourself everywhere.

Also, schools are not going to hold you responsible for what your counselors do, so it’s fine if she handwrote it.
