Quick question
Should I ask the admissions people my questions directly(hoping that they may remember me during the admissions process) or should i just ask the representatives my questions?
Slightly long question with explanation
Okay, so I’m about to become a Junior in high school, and i am really interested in going to Texas A&M (College Station). So I use their online chating thingy so that i can ask a live representative my questions. After messaging a lot (about 35-37 times) this year, I tried to apologize for my excessive questions, but i was told they were not the admissions people. So my question is… Should I ask the admissions people my questions directly(hoping that they may remember me during the admissions process) or should i just ask the representatives my questions? Will it be good if the admissions people know me? Will it set me apart from the crowd? Will it hurt my application? The representatives know me by name by now (some of them). Should i be like that with the admissions officers?
It won’t negatively affect your application but I would probably stick to just talking to the reps. After all, it’s their job to deal with freshman students from your geographic area.
Texas A&M does not consider demonstrated interest in the university as a factor in determining admission. Large number of applicants are admitted automatically under top 10% class rank rule. The next group, also automatic admits, are those in top quarter class rank, with combined SAT math and reading score of 1300 or more or ACT of 30 or more. If you are not in either of those groups, then grades, difficulty of courses taken and test scores are the most important factors followed by ECs and essays. Demonstrated interest is not a factor considered.
Also, what you are actually being told by the representative of the admissions office you are talking to is that the admissions office does not make the decisions to admit. If you are not in the automatic admit groups, the decision to admit will be made by committees within the various colleges of the university and the departments within those colleges that have the particular major for which you apply. To accomplish what you are attempting, you would have to contact the particular college or department that has your requested major and then actually find someone on the committee that will be making admission decisions, and usually they will not tell who those particular people are if you call and ask.
