I was wondering of the AMSCO review book for the AP US History exam would be sufficient prep for a high score on the Sat 2 history?

Yes, the AMSCO book is excellent.

so it would be enough to prepare for the SAT 2 with AMSCO only?

I would say so. I can't be completely sure, given that I took APUSH, but I don't recall thinking "Wow, I can't believe AMSCO left out __________"

Thanks! Anyone else?

I took APUSH and skimmed the AMSCO book a week before the SATII, ended up with a 710... its very good in my opinion. Just make sure you have enough time to read through it and don't have to skim as the test date approaches. Most of my friends have gotten 750+ by using this book.

How thoroughly do you think you need to read it, if your aiming for 750+?

Is the AMSCO book available in stores? or do you have to order it online?

It's a hard book to find in stores. I know I tried finding it at Barnes and Noble and had no luck. Also it does not come with an answer key for the practice quizes/tests. Make sure you either order it or take a look around these forums, there are some posts about it ;) ;)

Before my 1st semester exam I read 1/3 of the book in a day. But really you should be aiming at starting to prep 3-4 weeks before exam time.

it's the only book I read all year
seriously, didn't even read the textbook...maybe the first 4 chapters (out of 30?)
got a 5

amazon.com

It has pretty much all the info covered in the SAT II.

Doesn't hurt to do more extensive reading in a textbook though.

hmm was thinking the same..my APush class is 2 years..we have the American Pagent textbook and the Amscos for our "review book" and am confused aobut the 2nd SAT II to take..so ill proly study and take a practice to see how i do.

illogic - would you recommend that version in the link you provided, even with the Revised version available?
Oh, heh, I guess I posted the wrong link. Sorry.

Yeah, I got the revised version, which is obviously a better option for anyone else taking the test.

order from AMSCO! http://www.efastcom.com/AMSCOPUB/control/productdetails?&item_id=567656602

Amsco does help. Even if you don't want to read it and don't really care about US History, it gives a solid base that could help you score a 750 plus if you take it seriously. It gives a different perspective than is given in many classes and seems to speak to the exam.
