I took Regular Chemistry the summer of 2010 as a 10th grader to be. I currently remember none of the topics we covered during that class and ,talking to my friends that are currently in the class, my class in the summer was tremendously easier regarding preparation for AP Chem. Do you think I should take AP Chemistry? If yes, will it be an extremely hard class? My other option is to take Prep Physics for AP Physics.
Thanks for your input.

I’d take Chem instead of Physics… AP Physics is really hard (and may involve calculus) if you have never taken physics. You can pick up Chemistry pretty quickly. I’d buy “Chemistry: The Central Science” by Brown, and read that, and get a couple test prep books for the AP exam and you should be fine.

Thanks for the reply bebehe777.
This wouldn’t be the actual AP Physics class, but the preparatory class for next year to take AP Physics. Do you think I will be able to survive in the class if I have forgotten everything from the class?

Take the chemistry class unless you want to go through all that unnecessary work. I guess getting college credit isn’t all that bad. Why don’t you take them both?

I took two semesters of chemistry my freshman year of college and am now in organic. Ha d no high school background of it. I’m sure you’ll be okay since you already have prep coursework for it.

Hmm… However, I am slightly concerned that I am far behind for what I should know for AP Chemistry, and that I will be behind from the start.
So I guess my question is am I ready?

I’d recommend you go to a bookstore and look through some AP Chem study guides. Does the material look at all familiar? Read a few pages and see if it makes sense to you.

Is the AP Chem teacher the same one who taught your 10th grade chem class? If so, did you like that teacher then? If not, what do people say about the AP Chem teacher?

Thanks for the response spdf. The material seems vaguely familiar but I have not gone far in the review book. The AP Chem Teacher did not teach my 10th grade class, but I have heard the teacher is very good, but it’s more the material then the teacher. I jsut need to know if I can successfully integrate into AP Chem without so much remembering much from my regular chem class. How much review is there?
