I have heard that some schools will bump up a student's grade in an AP class if he scores high on the AP test. For example, if a kid got a B in an AP Class but got a 5 on the AP test, the school will change his grade to an A.

Is this practice very common?

Any of you guys familiar with this?

Im trying to persuade my school into doing the same for me.

My AP Human Geography teacher does that...but Ap Euro teacher doesnt so...yeah

This has been posted many times before.

Yes, many schools do change grades, though their policies vary. Some only do it for certain tests. Some will have an 'automatic A if you get score X' while others say 'score X will give you a 10% boost, score Y will give you a 5% boost.'

My school doesn't.

My school doesn't, and I think this practice is totally unfair. I got 5s on every test I took, but still wound up with Bs for the second semester in both USH and Lang. It ****es me off that I might be second-choice to some guy from another school who did just as well in the actual class but got an A for it.

This is only fair if you go to a school that is tough in academics. In that case, the course material at school will almost definitely be harder than the AP, resulting in many 5's but low grades.

AP exams really aren't good measures of your ability...it's not well rounded as you can ace the MC and get half of the FRQ's right, or vice versa in order to get a 5.
