I am a senior in high school currently applying regular decision to different colleges. One of the colleges I am applying asks for AP courses take and scores received on the test. The question states "Please list any AP courses taken throughout your high school career and the score received on each test". Last year, as a junior I took AP Calculus AB as the course because BC was not offered. However, I self-studied for the BC section on my own. I received a score of a 3 on the BC section and an AB sub score of 5. My counselor is informing me that I should record my score on the application as that I took the AP calculus AB test and received a 5, rather than the BC and getting a 3 with a 5 AB sub score because it asks for courses in the question. Is this considered lying or misrepresentation? I would receive the same college credit either way.

Generally, it’s 2 separate questions: List the P classes you have taken and list the scores you have taken on the AP exam.

In your case, the truthful answer is that you took Calc AB as a class, and took the Calc BC exam receiving a score of 3 with an AB subscore of 5. Stating anything else is not truthful.

My suggestion is to call the admissions office of the schools you are applying and ask them. I suggest this because you show your interest in the school, plus you will get you questions answered the right way.

Ditto on calling admissions. In the event you end up attending this particular school, you will have to submit official scores from College Board and you don’t want there to be a discrepancy.
