Question about appealing FA

Hey CC!

I have a quick question about appealing. I sent in my appeal for a FA package yesterday morning, and have not received any acknowledgement that they received my email. Is it recommended that I call their FA office this afternoon to ask if they have received my email? This is my dream school, and I really want to go but it just isn’t affordable.

Thanks in advance!

Xx

Is there a time sensitive issue? Otherwise I’d wait 3 business days and then call to make sure the appeal was received and to ask when to expect to hear a decision.

@Dolemite Kinda, as we’re thinking about flying in to the city of the school and want to know if we’re going to visit or not. And it says on their website that I’ll receive a decision between 7 and 11 days, but I don’t even know if they’ve received the email yet.

I think this time of year, it is reasonable to expect that any requests for reconsideration may take 7 to 10 business days. If it were me, I would wait 2-3 days for an acknowledgement that they received the latest info. If I heard or saw nothing, I would call, and ask if they received it, and if so, ask if I should expect to hear more in a week, or would it be more than that.

I’d wait till tomorrow morning and if heard nothing call and inquire to make sure they received it. Then mention you are trying to schedule a visit and when do they think they will have an answer.

Even if they received it, they may not have opened it. If you are planning a trip there, it’s worth a call and try to set up an appointment.

@Dolemite & @3puppies Yeah, thats probs what I’m going to do.

@twoinanddone Actually, I’m asking for an appointment in my appeal letter! So I’m going to call tomorrow and see whats up! 48hours after sending seems realistic.

I sent most of my appeals in 2-3 weeks ago. I’ve heard nothing. 4 colleges. No responses.

Both S and I have sent emails and left voicemails.

They are busy. I understand. We will try again next week to figure out where we stand.

My guess is that we’ll find out that we’re missing some documents and we’ll be starting from scratch.

The document I needed when I appealed was a tax transcript. Even though I’d used DRT, they still required the transcript.

@STEM2017 I only received my admission last Thursday. But 2 weeks seems wayyy to long.

@twoinanddone Yeah I send along all the correct supporting documents.

@AllyssXx If your appeal is received and processed anytime before May 1 I would be surprised.

I would say it depends on the school. A very large public flagship will probably take quite a while but a smaller private may be quicker. My D sent 1 appeal and it was answered with a new package in 24 hours but that was Columbia. They probably have plenty of staff compared to their size.

@STEM2017 They’d better. Imma be standing inside their FA office otherwise hahaha.

@Dolemite This is Tufts, so I do think that it won’t take too long. At least, I hope so. It’s my dream school and I want to hype about them, but can’t with the risk of not being able to afford it.

Knowing now that it’s Tufts I would call now and confirm they received all the documents they need. The website says they will not begin the reevaluation until they receive all documents and if you think you have sent all documents I would call immediately to confirm.

Tufts does not meet 100% demonstrated need. Did you send all of your documentation to support your request? What is the basis for your appeal.

They also have a limited budget for international students. Your ability to pay was a factor in the admissions process. Do you have an affordable option if they say no?

@Dolemite Just called them and they’ve received everything! Thank you for your advice! Now all I can do is wait.

@sybbie719 I thought it said on their website that they are “proud to meet 100% demonstrated need”? Anyhow, I do have affordable options. Just hope that Tufts pulls through, as it’s my favorite.

Good luck!

Tufts does meet 100% of the full demonstrated need of all admitted students. International applicants must submit the required financial aid documents (if financial aid is desired) at the time that application materials are submitted.

my bad!!! for many years they did not meet full need

@Dolemite

Thank you for all your advice! I got a new FA package today and wow! Looks like I’ll be attending Tufts next fall! Thank you againz
